Our biggest problem is hunger and now it's even harder to grow things because the climate has changed and affected us badly. We are having to adapt, to survive, and Self Help Africa is helping us with that. I have received seed for new crops, chickens and livestock. I can now provide for my family.鈥
Self Help Africa is an international development charity that works through agriculture to end hunger and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. We provide smallholder farmers with the tools and training to practice climate smart agriculture, improve the food and nutrition security of their families, and access markets and fair prices for their produce. We believe that real and lasting change can only be achieved by enabling and empowering local people.
A big thank you to science, natural history and environmental broadcaster Liz Bonnin for presenting our 91热爆 Radio 4 Appeal and to the wonderful Radio 4 listeners who donated an incredible £31,723 to support our climate resilience work in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley.
Baringo County in Kenya has suffered decades of extreme weather and environmental shocks, as a result of climate change. This has contributed to widespread food insecurity and high rates of poverty. The funds raised will be used to support 2,000 women farmers in Baringo County to adapt and diversify their farming, as they face hotter, drier and more unpredictable weather conditions.
You’re helping women like Lina - whose story featured in our appeal - with improved-breed goats and chickens, drought tolerant varieties of crops and access to water.
The aim is to mitigate the effects of climate change and build community resilience; to increase the food, nutrition and income security of smallholder farmers and their families in this region.
Thank you for helping women on the frontline of climate change. You can find out more about the Self Help Africa’s work on our .
