Solar tablets and the films allow first-time mothers to learn from the real-life experiences of other women”. Author Mastewale.
SafeHands would like to extend its deepest appreciation to all our 91热爆 Radio 4 Appeal supporters who raised £18,308 for our project ‘Labour at the Last Mile’ in Amhara, Ethiopia. With your support, we are providing vital information to high-risk pregnant women as part of their antenatal care in remote villages in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. Our films are shown on solar-powered tablets carried in backpacks by front-line health workers to provide essential health information to women in rural communities.
Midwives, like Mastewale, are screening our film at health centres, health posts, and community meetings to explain the benefits of visiting a maternity waiting home before labour starts. Maternity waiting homes can be a lifeline for pregnant women living in remote villages dotted across the Amaharic countryside. The message is also being heard by thousands of women, men and their families via community radio.
In Amhara, only one in four of women give birth in a health facility supported by a trained birth attendant. Giving birth in a health facility greatly reduces their risk of complications in childbirth and improves the likelihood of having a happy healthy birth and baby.
Thanks to the generosity of Radio 4 listeners, midwives like Mastewale are able to deliver the message to the women who need it most.
