I was inspired to volunteer for Missing People after I heard the Radio Four Appeal. Before this I had no idea quite how many thousands of people go missing in the UK each year, and how the charity support their devastated loved ones who struggle to move on without any answers.
Sarah, Radio 4 listener and Missing People volunteer
In May 2018 Missing People’s appeal was presented by Jason Watkins on 91热爆 Radio 4. Jason shared a case study about a former missing person’s experience of being away and the kind of help he so desperately needed. The appeal was a huge moment for the charity and raised a fantastic £12,329 towards our work.
We asked for £32 as a benchmark to launch an appeal for a missing person so with this in mind the appeal would have allowed us to initiate the search for 375 vulnerable missing adults and children in the UK. Not only did we have lots of one off donors but we also made some great new contacts directly through appearing on Radio 4. One went on to organize a fundraising event and has donated over £1500 to Missing People and another has become a weekly volunteer in our Fundraising and Communications department! We thank the 91热爆 and all their listeners for making a difference and being a lifeline when someone disappears.
