We want to say a huge thank you to 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4 listeners for generously supporting our work through our appeal. Every penny of the incredible £18,432 you donated will help us reach more women like Aziza through our education projects to give them the skills and resources they need to have a new start, turning their hope for a better future into a reality.

We also want to thank Cathy Newman for presenting our appeal and communicating so effectively the challenges that the people we work with face when they have missed out on education because of poverty.

Aziza is a subsistence farmer in Mvolo County, South Sudan, producing enough food to live on, but not enough to sell. She, like many other displaced people, has received humanitarian aid but didn’t have any consistent or sustainable income or security in her access to nutritious food. Most subsistence farmers like her eat just one meal per day.

Working with our local partner organisation there, Feed the Minds has implemented a practical education project, reaching subsistence farmers from 66 communities, mostly women and people living with disabilities, as well as internally displaced people. The training provided has enabled people like Aziza to adopt more sustainable agricultural practices, build more peaceful communities, and gain financial independence, ultimately increasing access to food and incomes.

After implementing our project there, Aziza’s life is changing. Food security for participants has increased by 80% in their last harvest, which will make a lasting impact in whole families’ lives.

Thanks to support from this appeal, we will continue to work with our global partners to deliver locally led, sustainable change where it is needed most.
