Currently, CLIC Sargent reaches 69% of people under the age of 25 that are diagnosed with cancer. We aim to reach them all, and having an appeal on Radio 4 has given the charity a great platform to raise awareness of childhood cancer and CLIC Sargent
Everyone at CLIC Sargent would like to say a huge thank you to the Radio 4 listeners that raised £12,411 for young lives against cancer by donating to our appeal. These funds will allow us to limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health and help young people thrive, not just survive. We would also like to thank anyone that helped us promote the appeal; it was a true one team effort and we are eternally grateful for your continued support.
The money raised by Radio 4 listeners will help fund nurses, play specialists and social workers throughout the UK who help families after they hear the overwhelming news their child has cancer. In those first crucial weeks and months, when young cancer patients are full of fear, anxiety and confusion, CLIC Sargent care teams provide expert support tailored to each child, young person and family.
They will use their professional expertise to help families navigate the complex world of cancer: this might be through emotional support, information and guidance so families feel less overwhelmed; clinical care to help families deal with cancer treatment at hospital and at home; or specialist play to ease children through treatment.
