Weekend weather
When I left the house this morning it felt I had walked into a fridge. Today is the coldest day of the winter so far in Wales. Temperatures struggling despite the sunshine only 0 to 2 Celsius this afternoon. Staying below freezing on the high ground and bitterly cold with a significant wind chill.
Over the weekend it will stay cold and with a change in wind direction from the northeast to the northwest Wales will come into the firing line for some snow, especially north and west Wales.
Tonight dry and clear with a widespread frost. Lowest temperatures -1 to - 6 Celsius. After midnight sleet and snow showers will spread into the north and west of Wales.
Tomorrow morning some sunshine in the south but it will cloud over. The cloud bringing a few spots of sleet or snow but generally not amounting to much. Less cold than today with a westerly breeze. Top temperatures ranging from 2 Celsius inland to 6 or 7 Celsius on the coast.
Tomorrow evening a cold front will move south across Wales bringing a short spell of rain and snow. Followed by clearer, drier weather, frost and ice. Lowest temperatures +2 to -3 Celsius.
Sunday a cold and breezy day with a mixture of hail, sleet and snow showers. Most of the showers in the north and west. Some of them heavy. 2 to 5cm of snow in places, especially inland and on the high ground. 10 to 15cm on the mountains with drifting in strong winds. Southeast Wales largely fine and sunny.
Next week staying cold with some sunshine, frost and a few wintry showers. So if you're heading out this weekend wrap-up warmly and watch out for those icy patches!
