Risk of thunderstorms
The MET Office have issued a severe weather warning for today as heavy rain is set to hit much of Wales.
Most of Wales will feel very warm and humid today with showers developing for north Wales this afternoon.
The air is currently very unstable and where winds converge i.e. a sea breeze meets a land breeze, the air will rise upwards, forming clouds.
If the air is unstable and contains enough moisture - heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop...
15 to 30mm of rain is possible in a short space of time but the storms will be localised.
So some places will get a soaking but others a few miles down the road will stay dry.
The joys of weather forecasting!
I will be keeping a close eye on the rainfall radar this afternoon.
The following areas could be affected:
Conwy (Severe), Denbighshire (Severe), Flintshire (Severe), Gwynedd (Severe), Wrexham (Severe)
Scattered, heavy and locally thundery showers are expected to develop through today.
The public are advised to take extra care and refer to "Traffic Wales" for further advice on road conditions.
If you happen to snap a nice photo of a thunderstorm today then send it in to our Flickr group and I might feature on the weather forecast later...
Take care though and don't photograph outside if lightening is close by!
Derek
