Cerys Matthews weighs into 6 Music debate
Following the 91Èȱ¬'s strategy review on its future, which proposes axing the 6 Music and Asian Network radio stations plus half the corporation's websites, Cerys Matthews has added her voice to the growing calls to save 6 Music, on which she is a presenter.
and report her as saying that axing 6 Music would be "like cutting off your little finger to lose weight".
"They are trying to put 91Èȱ¬ 6 in the mainstream but the 91Èȱ¬ is there to provide culture and content, not to appeal to the mainstream.
"It's the bigger picture really. I love the 91Èȱ¬, when I was in America I missed it so much. 6 Music provides brilliant programmes and is an example of what the 91Èȱ¬ is there for. I don't understand why it's going when it produces some fantastic shows and plays an amazing array of music. It's like cutting off your little finger to lose weight," she said.
"I truly believe the 91Èȱ¬ is there for the people so it is down to the people to try to save it.
"If you believe in diversity and culture and not just one bland stream, which may be what happens if these cuts are made, then let the 91Èȱ¬ Trust know. There's still time to save the station.
"The 91Èȱ¬ Trust will take notice if they keep receiving messages."
