Hattie tells the story of the tumultuous love life of Carry On star . Happily married to Dad's Army actor John Le Mesurier, Hattie was at the height of her popularity when she began an affair with her handsome young driver, John Schofield.

The drama features scenes that recreate the filming of in 1963, in which Hattie Jacques starred as the manager of an all-female minicab firm called GlamCabs.

It was during the filming of this seventh Carry On film that Jacques embarked on the affair. Despite the danger of a career-threatening scandal, when the film ended she couldn't bring herself to end the affair and Schofield moved into an attic room as a lodger in the family home.
