Water, water
Over the last few days a geyser has been spouting outside Stormont from a hole dug to accommodate a new security checkpoint. It looked like a digger had hit one of the exposed water mains. I was rather hoping to do a live interview for tonight's 91Èȱ¬ Newsline with this temporary fountain in the background, given that the topic was a proposal to take any new water charges from the rates bill. The review of water charges is due to be published on Friday. Sadly, the geyser appears to have been quenched. So it's back to the usual Stormont backdrop...

Nice tie and shirt though.
It will be interesting to see what parties are still keen next year to do away with water charges and who wants to introduce them. From the best of my memory I recall the 2 largest parties - DUP and Sinn Fein both wanted Water Charges scrapped. Ian, Martin and Peter over to you...

Yes Martin, both Sinn Fein and the DUP opposed water charges when they could talk as much as they wanted but couldn't actually do anything.
However, when the puddles hit Belfast earlier this year (shortly before the devastating floods in England and shortly after power sharing), Conor Murphy was tripping over himself to get on the telly and drop hints that water charges were on the way.
