j_standley_6666.gifI joined 91热爆 Sport working for the website back in 2001 and am one of a number of journalists who help out with the rugby union coverage.

I started my career on the before joining the-then Mirror Group after a brief spell at the Press Association.

After the failed re-launch of the Sporting Life I worked on a number of Mirror Group publications, including a memorable week on the news desk of the Sunday People.

Like most sports journalists I鈥檓 a frustrated player who lacked only the pace, power and ability to get right to the top.

A non-tackling fly-half, my rugby career was stymied at a young age by my inability to last a match without getting injured, although now I am officially a sporting veteran I am considering returning for one last fling.

You could always consider trying other sports if you're too old and infirm for rugby. Tiddlywinks? Maybe even football.....

Looking forward to reading your reports on the 6 Nations. Who are your tips to look out for.

Hi James,

I remember playing with you for King's in all parts of London. You were something of a flair player with a fantastic spiral kick which kept us moving forward. Rugby's moved on so much since the early nineties - I know I couldn't cope with the massive hits week after week any more. Great times to look back on. I also remember that you were one of the only students there to hand in your essays after me. Deadlines were never our thing.

As for predictions....
England to win the Calcutta Cup, Ireland for the Championship and us never to play rugby again!

Cheers,

Simon.

James,

As we discussed over lunch before Christmas you are more than welcome to come and join the boys at Old Actonians RFC to try and rekindle your career before 'old father time' blows the final whistle.

Once you start playing again you can then look those girly pros in the eye and think (note I say think!) of telling them not to be so soft when they discuss their latest hamstring injury.

Up the smokes!

Julian
