My 10 year old has just got very excited about the programme - did your guest really say the f word on Radio 4?
Complain about this postYou may well slate the cynical chef, but it was the only thing on the programme that had me burst into spontaneous applause. Cheered me up an absolute treat- we need more like him on Radio 4.

Complain about this postYes, that was a great piece... Why do all these people have to discover suddenly that they are in lurve one day in the year. Most of them will probably go back ignoring each other then next day.
I tried to do my bit by introducing the two (not quite) dates I met with that day, thinking they might like each other. They actually do. The only problem is that one of the guys forgot to tell he already has a boy friend... How to avoid becoming cynical?!

Instead of joining the hordes being ripped off by florists, restaurants and hotels on 14th February, all because of some arbitrary association between romance and one of several ancient Christian martyrs, you can celebrate Troo Lurv in authentically British style on St Dwynwen's Day on 25 January.
Yes, Dwynwen is a native British saint from the 5th century, associated with love - unlike Valentine, and happily neglected so far by greetings card merchants, restaurants and hotels outside Wales.
So you can romance your loved one without being part of the common pink-hued herd, and beat the February rush on chocolates, roses, heat-shaped cakes...

Complain about this postI am a romantic person but i despise the queues of men buying flowers, cards and chocolates, and paying the inflated restaurant prices - its so lacking in thought and originality - its tokenism without substance.
On Valentines evening, my girlfriend and I , had a special quality romantic evening with a candlelit dinner, in my house. It was lovely, it was real, time and thought had gone into it.
It is a weakness women have that they can be worked by tokens - put the right tokens in and they will be yours to command. Shower them with the right gifts, compliments and romantic drivel and they will be putty in your hands. Girls need to be taught in school that they have this weakness and taught how to recognise and control it.
