Earlier this week, it was revealed that attacks on guide dogs by other dogs have reached a new high of more than eight a month, up from seven a month in September 2011. The figure has risen consistently in recent years.
The charity , which published the information, called for the police to be given the powers to treat an attack on an assistance dog as the equivalent of an attack on a person. It has also called for introduction of compulsory microchipping for all dogs, which would enable dangerous animals to be found more easily.
