Crippled Monkey | 00:00 UK time, Friday, 9 December 2005

Now, Crippled Monkey will admit to being no fan of football. 90 minutes of grown men kicking a ball around a field is not my idea of fun. But I do appreciate that some people like it, and that some people even want to go so far as travelling to a foreign location to watch a match in a stadium. But if you're a wheelchair-using football fan who was maybe thinking of going to watch England play in next year's World Cup in Germany - think again. According to yesterday's Daily Mirror, there's an allocation of just for disabled England fans attending next year's tournament. Generous, eh? Don't all rush at once now, form an orderly queue, etc etc.

I have just returned from a convivial evening in my local pub. I logged on to this website in disbelief of the main topic of conversation of the evening that only 3 disabled tickets were to be made available to each England match.I thought it was a joke. It is with incredulity that I read the confirmation that this is for real. As an abled bodied person,(but sadly past my sell by date) I am repulsed by these pathetic discriminatory arrangements and wonder how the person responsible for making such an ill informed decision could possibly have been appointed to a position of authority and be revealed to the WORLD as such an incompetent. Even more astounding is the fact that there was no one to speak up against this abhorant desicion before it was finalised. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE IN AUTHORITY TELL ME THIS IS REALLY AN EARLY APRIL FOOL JOKE!!!!! Preferably the total idiot who made the decision.

It doesn't surprise me at all. After all this is the organisation who thought womens football could be enhanced by the players wearing tighter shorts and give paltry fines to national organisations for the racist behaviour of their fans at matches. FIFA is run by white,middle-aged,middle class, non-disabled males. How can we expect any diversity from them. They'll probably use the health and safety angle for this outrageous decision or say that there isn't enough interest to warrant further tickets. I'm not all together sure out beloved FA will do anything about it either. I will write to the FA about this issue and report back.
