Dead Ringers
I have just got round to watching this week's Dead Ringers.
It has a sketch about what I called Labour's World Cup strategy . When faced by questions, Tony Blair starts to count down from twenty. At zero the flag of St George drops and the PM says "speak to the flag cos the nation aint listening" (a pastiche on a street phrase my kids inform me!).
The only thing that spoils the joke is the interviewer who wears implausibly large specs. Doesn't he realise what a fool he looks?

Oh my God- how hilarious was that sketch. I think dead ringers do a really good job but they need to perfect your voice yet (looks just like you though Nick)!! The Tony Blair impression is absolutely uncanny though and it is scarily good sometimes. Actually just compare that photo you have put up and the cartoon of you at the top- how funny- a good light hearted note to end the week on there Nick!!!!!!!
It's not the same sketch, but one of the Dead Ringers sketches featuring Nick can be seen on You Tube -
Hi Nick
I have seen two episodes of the show
its normally you being portrayed with Jon Culshaw as Blair ( far more
funnier than Bremners Blair)
Please dont fall into the easy trap
others have suffered by becoming the
imitator. John Cole with his deep accent and tweed coat WAS the impersonator in the end Oakley was too dull to imitate..Andrew Marr
with his flapping arms outside No 10
became a parody of himself and now
they are making out you talk in short staccato cliched soundbites,
AS IF. To prove the point if you watch Marr on AM Sundays I think its really Bremner. I wear glasses but my new pair are narrow black frames like yours ...so I too can imitate you .....seiously though you give us
the political issues in laymans language thats why your the best since Cole.
The only time to start worrying is when Mrs Nick epxresses a preference for your doppledanger ;-)
Hey Nick
I flipping missed Deadringers this week so i didn't see them mocking you.. how dare they *tuts* I'm sure it was a good episode though.
Nick I have noticed several postings which question your (and other 91Èȱ¬ commentators) independance since the Hutton report. Not being one for conspiricy theories myself but it did spring to mind that this blog might not be you at all but that Jon Culshaw chap.
So to prove that you are indeed the author could you possibly cough twice next time you mention Tony Blair on TV.
This would restore the confidence in us bloggers and just maybe man did land on the moon and Titanic was not substituted.
Come on Nick we need to know you are the real thing!
The ability to laugh at ones self is possibly the most important skill to poses. Well done, most people in the public eye try to ignore any mocking.
Go on Nick, cough twice the next time you mention Mr Blair or better still start juggling lemons!
The sketch was very funny Nick but have you also seen the Andy Marr impersonation? It is hilarious!
For those of us who missed it, where can we click on to the sketch? Can you provide a link?!
I haven't seen the sketch, but being the subject of a Dead Ringers sketch must have made you very proud.
By the way, I don't think your glasses look too bad - though I am biased since mine are very similar.
Diana, someone left a comment above with a link to the video - here it is again
At a time when our government needs serious scrutiny, it seems a shame that 91Èȱ¬ political editors feel the need to become 'characters'. I couldn't bear to watch Andrew Marr's embarrassing attempts to reinvent himself as some kind of national treasure. If he wanted to become a comedian, why didn't he go the the Edinburgh Fringe? I pray that Mr. Robinson will resist the temptation that daily national exposure gives him to carve a niche for himself as an entertainer and stick to journalism.
Nick, .. you ought to have gone to Specsavers!
stop being so silly its a great show. you should have gone to spec savers.
Nonsense! Surely it adds to the joke.
Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery nick!
Tom,
I claim copywright on that joke, I was three hrs and one minute ahead of you!
Steve, thanks..
Have checked it out!
Seriously though, Nick - the nation isn't listening or voting ... so the joke is on us.
Council bye election up here last Thursday night - 19% turnout and I suppose we were lucky to get that - soccer is the new opiate of the masses...
...... and what a wonderful 'Spitting Image' he would make too!

I've found Nick's other appearences on YouTube.
Here's one of them -
And here's the infamous 'talk to the flag' sketch -
