It's ok. Takes a little getting accustomed to for the eyes, but that happened quick enough the last time the blog software changed.

There's no way to see recent comments, which is annoying.

The only way to see if there has been any further contributions is to go through each and every topic. I've noticed that people quite often bring up quite old topics, so, when they do, no one will know without trawling through pages of topics, and checking them all individually.

I like the general design, but think that's quite a functional defect. An updated list of the 6...or even, for improvement...the seven or eight recent postings would make sense

Yes - it looks pretty good. Agree with Bernie about the recent comments thing. Could we not have a wee smile, Will? The previous photo banner was almost like you were swinging round a lamp-post outside City Hall, like Eliza Doolittle, and now you've gone all 'Enry 'Iggins! Bring back the sparkle! :-)

The "Preview" option is a significant improvement. But I would agree with H and Bernie about recent comments.

Guys, if you scroll down on the blog home page there is the "Topical posts on this blog" list. I think those are recent comments?

I think you're right, but it's not as clear as it could be.

I preferred a list of topics and then; "comment by Peter Klaver", or whatever....that way its easy to see if any replies have been made, who has made them, and even to jump straight to the reply you're after

I think the recent comments list is improved over the old blog. On the old blog, posts in one very active thread would quickly flush a single post on another thread out of the list of recent comments. Now we see which threads have been active lately, regardless of a flurry of posting in one thread.

Under the old regime, if I wrote something and waited a reply, I could see from the main page "peterklaver has commented"...now all i can do is check all the recent topics to see if there has been a reply to any of them.

True. Another forum where I post has the dual solution, both a list of recent threads with activity and a list of the most recent posts and names of posters. Will, any chance that could be put up here on W&T too?

I find it rather easy to find out whether there there have been additional comments on a particular thread. The number in brackets tells you. For example, under 'Bleets and Twitters', up until about five minutes ago, it had (1). Now it reads (2). I deduced from this that someone somewhere has added a comment within the last five minutes.

Well, since the blog knows who we are, what about getting the 91Èȱ¬ Bletchley Park Boffins to make a little bespoke box with helfpul personalised info like: "Peter Klaver demolished Bernie's post on "God's Left Earlobe" at 13:21 on 29/4/2009. Your clever take-down of OT on "Did Mervyn Storey Kill The Dinosaurs" has been dribbled over by JovialPTL at 13:22 on 23/10/4004BCE" or some such?

And if it could make coffee too, that would be nice. What about it, Will?

At the risk of being dense, Bernard, if I had posted something on a thread last Friday, I would return to that thread to see what had happened since. I wouldnt trawl through all the other threads incase, miraculously, my post had appeared elsewhere.

But on Sundays there can be much activity in response to SS. If that becomes Wills day off, it would take away a good deal of activity from the blog.

Talking of Sundays, is it appropriate to pray on Sundays to ask god for things? It's His day off! God has just done a hard weeks work, creating some new strains of flue to counter the medication that doctors have developed, smiting some gays and drowning other sinners en masse. Finally he has a chance to sleep late. But oh no, here come the christians by the hundred million with their prayers, 'Please god, my wife is so hideously ugly, could you fix that please, god?'. Give the poor guy a rest will you?!

Helio, the actuality of the day in time and space is not really important, as such. Far more important, is the context/culture and mindset of the author.

For example, just say that Bernard posts an outrageous piece at, say, 10pm this evening. It is full of wrath and righteous indignation, threatening fire and brimstone and eternal damnation to all who disagree with him. (Totally out of charcater, I may add.) The fact that we know it was posted at 10pm today would be neither here nor there.

Unless..... From other sources, we discover that Bernard is an Arsenal supporter and then we realise that they have just been stuffed 3-1 by Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final. Then, the time of the post becomes crucial.

We can probably safely deduce from that information, all things considered, that Bernard's 10PM post could be safely ignored.

Ah but that's the beauty of this system, PeterK, there would be no day off. Everyday would be a blog day. Bloggers would be expected to live EVERY day as a blog day. Therefore, bloggers wouldnt behave one way on a Sunday, then behave differently on the other six days of the week.

Uh, yes, there needs to be a list of most recent comments with the commenter's name and the thread with a link, something like there was before. From using Moveable Type and Wordpress I know it's very easy to add in the sidebar >>>

Other than that, it's fairly nice scenery here.

Yes Graham, I made it through. Actually I found the comments entertaining, but only in a limited kind of way you understand. Just on that point, does anyone know of a word which would describe a 'small (as in tiny) smile', is there a way of saying 'mildly amused' in a single word?

New website, yep, looks good, sort of sharp, clean, but what is it you are reading William, the Beano? The Preview thing is good, but agree with others, needs a Recent Comments list as it helps us to follow responses.

BTW, not being an atheist, I believe in blog, maybe should that be 'B' (capital letter) Blog?

And here, RJB, Utd 3, Arsenal 1? Inside information have you? Prophet? If I discover later that you were correct and didn't put a tenner on it (which I won't) I'll be very cross, but quite impressed.

Well, I can now copy and paste (without having to select all) in Windows XP. Previously this would only work on Vita, for some reason, so it must be an impovement.

Pity we still can't edit comments though.

Just in, Peter, after watching Man Utd on council telly in the local pub. 6 guys in the bar from - Carrickfergus!! (They're on a two week contract on a building site over here.)

Was thinking of my own comments helio since I spelt Vista wrong. Too late after a very stressful day. What we still need is:

(1) An editing facility

(2) A spell checker

Otherwise the new format is fine and much better than the old one.

You could use your browser for the latter. Firefox can be set to do live spell checking while you type your post into the comment box. Frequently helps me out as non-native English speaker.

Your new website. I simply am unable to explain how much of an improvement it is. None of those stupid mini 'pop up' screen capture windows or the RSS style contents list, much much better. Simple. Clear. Crisp. Minimal. Good job.

I often do this but sometimes even that can be wrong. If my spelling's anyway near correct Microsoft Word is usually OK. Sometimes I fail to spot my own spelling mistakes though.

Love it. The new style 91Èȱ¬ blogs templates are a real improvement for readability, and the new header images are great for giving me a clue where I am as soon as I hit the site from me feedreader. The Beeb's RSS feed is sadly lacking in this respect...hard to figure out which section I'm going to end up in or get the gist of the article, in at least.
