norton.jpgThe Irish actor Jim Norton has for his in Conor McPherson's The Seafarer. Jim is also the narrator for our Radio Ulster series In The Beginning (you can hear the next episode on Sunday at 4.30 pm). We are all delighted for Jim, who is one of Ireland's most highly-regarded actors and is now enjoying well-deserved success in New York.

Just before leaving for New York to begin rehearsals for The Seafarer, Jim recorded the book of Genesis, in the King James Version, in Studio 3 at Broadcasting House. The producer, John Simpson, called me in to advise on some of the more esoteric Hebrew pronunciations, and I knew, listening to Jim read, that we were on a winner. He has an extraordinary voice and the 17th century text of the Authorised Version sounded so fresh and alive in his hands that it could have been written yesterday.

During a coffee break, Jim told us about the play he was about to begin in New York, and we compared notes on a city we've both lived in. Everyone who knows his work knows that Jim Norton is an utter professional and a brilliant actor. Those who have met him personally also know he is utterly charming. We will proudly now boast that In The Beginning is narrated by the Tony Award-winning actor Jim Norton. Congratulations Jim!

I listened with in credulity to Williams show this morning . He was interviewing an idiot who thought the lawd gawd jasus had saved him to heal!!
I was repeatedly saying,"ask the question,Willam, ask the question" !! But alas no pertinent question came !!
100,000 people dead in Burma,(mostly little children),but William didn't think that was relevant ???
"If I was to put my hands around your neck and slowly squeeze, would your gawd save you" ?? Nope,Willaim, being the fine "journalist" that he is,didnt think of that one either .

    VERY POOR SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi nobelHeizeGuderian

"If I was to put my hands around your neck and slowly squeeze, would your gawd save you"

    That is precisely the point.

    Eloi eloi, lama sabachthani.

The truth is actually darker than you think.

James Montgomery Boice in his book 鈥淲hatever Happened To The gospel of Grace鈥 exposes Secularism, Humanism, Relativism, Materialism and Pragmatism for what they are 鈥淔alse Religions鈥 and how they have found their way into the Church in their different guises, what we heard this morning regarding the Lakeland Revival and how it has found its way to the street where I used to live can be summed up by a quote that JMB uses from Michael Horton鈥檚 book 鈥淢ade in America鈥, where he rightly says:

鈥淲hile there is a great deal of mysticism among modern faith healers, they actually eliminate mystery from miracle, making healing predictable and, in fact, inevitable (naturalistic). No longer is a miracle the spontaneous and surprising work of God, but the right use of means, as predictable as any other scientific law. When God heals, it is not an interruption of naturalistic laws. At its core, the faith healers proclaim a naturalistic faith. Salvation and healing are both human achievements鈥.

It now looks like the Protestant Pentecostal Church movement in Northern Ireland has now its own Lourdes experience imported and franchised from the Sun-sin State of America in the shape of Saint Todd Bentley who has replaced Saint Bernadette. I wonder have they started to sell the merchandise yet. The only real reason these healing gimmicks are used in the Church is to bring people into mass meetings. It鈥檚 more like a Benny (Hill) Hinn Crusade than a genuine God sent revival such as was experienced on the Isle of Lewis and during the year of grace in Ulster 1859. Sadly the Pentecostals of Northern Ireland lack the gift of "the discerning of spirits"

On another subject during this mornings programme regarding certifying the dead as dead, the training that junior doctors receive for this duty is practically nil, in my employment I have mortuary duties to carry out and part of this is to lay bodies out for doctors to exam so that they can be certified as dead for release to the undertaker and when a junior doctor comes for the first time to carry this task out, the first question that they normally ask you is 鈥渨hat do I do鈥.
