man drinking ciderThe extra tax on cider left a bitter taste for many listeners to the show. This could have a massive impact on the industry in the County. Many people called in with their favourite Gloucestershire brew.

Steve told me the County Arms in Gloucester was the real cider drinker's pub. He favours Golden Dawn, Shirley from Stonehouse can't resist a pint of Thatchers, and Dave from Tetbury loved Weston's Farm House Rough. He described it as a green cloudy liquid that certainly did the trick!

Let's celebrate our local cider producers. Past or present, share with me your favourite local "apple juice" .

I've been banned from drinking cider since an unfortunate incident at the Gloucestershire County Show in 1990 involving my trousers and the Queen Mother.

Anyway, I don't think our small cider-makers have anything to worry about. People will always pay for quality.

The new taxation level does, however, conjure up the image of tramps sitting around the bus stop drinking a nice bottle of Merlot, while at middle class dinner parties, a 2-litre plastic bottle of White Lightning is passed around the table.

We're so spoilt here in Gloucestershire with all the great ciders available.
And I think Mike's right: people who appreciate good cider will always be willing to pay that little extra for quality.
I'd list some of my local favourites here, but I don't know what the max word count is, so won't even try...
