If we're talking anti-valentine, rather than sad, I feel bad, breakup songs, I have to go with stuff like I Will Survive and Hit the road Jack. Stuff that says I don't need you anymore anyway, rather than I can't go on now you've left.

Paul Simon's "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" is an obvious choice.

Ben Folds Five - Song for the Dumped (Ben Folds is a bit of a potty mouth in this song though - you have been warned!)

Alanis Morrisette's "You Outta Know" - chock-full of resentment and bitterness throughout. Marvellous anti-Valentine stuff.

Elton John's If It Wasn’t For Bad comes to mind.

Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made for Walkin'

Not a breaking-up song, but a brilliant tale of a relationship where the love is long since gone - The Mountain Goats' No Children

'My girlfriend's dead' by the Vandals. Always makes me giggle.

Jilted John by Jilted John is a perfect anti-valentines song.

I second Cee Lo Green's (uncensored version of) 'Forget You', and my personal favourite, Gives You Hell by the All American Rejects. Oh, I've screeched that one a few times...

How about "You're so Vain" by Carly Simon.
The line "I bet you think this song is about you" is just delicious!!!

Ironically, REM's 'The One I Love' - scourge of weddings worldwide and melodiously, odiously regarding "A simple prop, to occupy my time". Fire.

Type o negative - Unsuccesfully coping with the natural beauty of infedelity (give that one a try, it may not seem it from the title but it does have a good oomph to it)

"I Want You To Die" by the sexually omnivorous Portland chanteuse Storm Large says it all.

How about "She" by Green Day?

There's always the lazy DJ's favourite, Godley & Cream's "Wedding Bells". Heard a radio 1 dj play it in the late 80's. The stunned silence @ the end was great

She Hates Me by Puddle of Mudd. Sweary version is my favourite, for the sheer venom.

Haha You're Dead by Green Day. Always makes me smile.

My two favourites in the old non-Valentine category: 'Shut Up and Drive' by Chely Wright (for when you're still at that 'did I do the right thing' stage and need some support from your inner self) and 'I Need a Little Time' by The Beautiful South (for all those who've ever been treated badly by someone who thought they could walk back in and pout a little and say the 'L' word and everything would be okay) In the final verse 'You had a little time and you had a little fun, didn't you? Didn't you? While you had yours do you think I had none? Do ya?' is just perfect.

Also, I hate everything about you by Ugly Kid Joe.

If the radio is on on a Sunday morning, Steve Wright devotes an entire program to Love Songs on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2...although I'm frequently in fits at the inappropriate choices.
George Michael's "Careless Whisper" (about him being caught cheating) and Witney's "I will always love you" (her wailing about having been dumped) are particular howlers.
However, yesterday surpassed all expectations with Johnny Mathis and Denise Williams belting out "Too much, too little, too late". Inspired!

Not quite breaking up, but definitely doomed relationships:

- "Ballad of an Upstairs Window" by Pete Atkin

I can't believe noone's gone for the obvious (surely?): Tammy Wynette, DIVORCE

or Martha Wainwright's 'You cheated me' (from 'I know you're married but I've got feelings too')

"You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly" (Loretta Lynn). It's the only Country & Western song I can stand.

I had a friend who went to a family wedding at which the happy couple had their first dance to 'Band of Gold' by Freda Payne, much to the bemusement of my friend and probably most of the other guests!

As for anti-Valentines, Guns n' Roses' 'Used To Love Her' is fairly...evocative!

I went to a wedding where the couple's first dance was to Lionel Richie's 'Easy Like Sunday Morning'. If you're not paying attention, it sounds like a lovely song. But the opening line? "I know it sounds funny but I just can't stand the pain; Girl I'm leaving you tomorrow..." They are divorced now.

If just for the repeated yelling at the end.

Also Nookie is good contender.
All the early stuff is fully Anti Valentine, which got him labeled a misognist.

A bit poppy, but 'Please Mr Postman' (Beatles/Carpenters) and 'Return to Sender' (Elvis) are two which make me want to shout "Give up - she doesn't want you!!"

Surely Carole Bayer Sagar's "You're Moving Out Today" is the ultimate antiValentine's song. Angry, but clear that the right thing is being done!

The Pebbles series of records has some great examples. "Go Away" by the Plague opens with: "Go away! 'cause I hate you! Go away! I won't date you! Get away from my door!", all to an ersatz Kinks soundtrack. Wonderful!
