Expected win, dodgy turnout though and also the anti trident man seemed popular with a large number of votes

No surprises other than the low turnout and high Christian vote.

This area has voted for the man who will reduce Accident & Emergency care, and will probably complain about it no-end.

Turnout is (as the returning officer said 50.5%. You have failed to count the 970 rejected papers. This level of 'spoiled ballots' is significant.

Does the party who obtains the largest number of seats automatically gain the "First Minister" title?

Or could any of the coalition parties take the title? I'm no Solitarity supporter, but surely would be great banter to get them into the coalition and make Sheridan First Minister.

I doubt that the other MSP would have Tommy as first minister but what a historical moment that would be!

Been watching 91热爆 coverage since 11pm and every studio guest so far has been a middle-aged, white male - and in fact the campaign coverage has been totally male-dominated. So much for diversity and gender equality in Scottish politics........

Interesting to see a high vote count for the Christian party. Possibly a reaction to some of the suspect legislation introduced by the current labour government?

In other news I can see the broken down boat from Arran from my window. Seems fine for the moment but I'm glad I'm not stuck on it!

A seven percent swing to the SNP in a Labour 'safe seat' especially the current First Minister's seat seems indeed a vision of things to come...

All companies doing "POLLS" know you have to be VERY careful how you ask the question YET the BALLOT PAPER seemed to be "biased" in my opinion ... it seemd to be sending a subliminal message .... how is this allowed ... i reckon the voite should be abandoned and done again.

If you look at the paper the very first panel said .

"vote for alex salmon for first minister "

yes the other boxes simply had
labour scotland
green party

etc

How come alex salmon was able to influence and and use this WEIGHTED message on a BALLOT paper.

I live in motherwell, SNP votes could be a protest as no-one believes that Labour wouldnt get back in here.

Jack McConnell seems like a steady, able politician and a decent man; he's done well as FM just at a time when Scotland couln't afford another damp squib. I'm glad he's got a good majority.

However, the swing is very interesting - and the number of spoilt votes is a bit concerning.

I agree with 9#'s comments that the coverage could have shown more diersity. Pre-recorded vox pops from nurses, teachers, mums and actuaries, for example?

I was also surprised by the high vote for the Christian party, would be interested to see if the people who voted for them are mabey a little anti muslim (the current climate being as it is) or if they are spoiling their vote.

Paul - I think that it is up to the party to determine what the wording will be - the Christian party had some statement about God's work or something....

Glasgow Kelvin. No turnout (as returning officer said again!) 44.2% you're 2 points adrift again because of 1195 rejected papers. They're still part of the turnout chaps. Send for the programmer!

I am not surprised at the number of spoiled papers. It seemed a foregone conclusion there would be an unacceptably high number of people confused by the new ballot papers - and so it is turning out to be. This will probably disadvantage the SNP despite their considerable advantage of being top of the ballot paper.

Don't get the spoiled papers bit on 'new papers' Voting for Constituencies/list is same as last two times, except it's on one sheet. Only local ballot papers are new. Yes it's possible this is confusing some folks re their other paper...

Is it (perchance) that machines aree more accurate at picking up discrepancies and inviglators are wary of over-ruling the machines? Under the manual system election agents were invited by returning officers to scrutibnise rejected papers and accept or reject their adjudication. Can't believe this is happening with as many as 1500 in one constituency...

Either way the hard work that so many people have put into raising the turnout is being undermined by this catostrophic failure. At 5% rejected papers the Rejected Paper party will be getting their deposit back!

Sara (no. 19) the SNP was at the top because of 'Alex Salmond for First Minister' is alphabetically the first one on the list. Perhaps they planned it that way when they thought up the slogan ....
