Equality for all?
- 9 May 07, 03:24 PM
Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness are hosting their first joint reception tonight. Stressing the inclusive approach of their new Executive, the function is devoted to representatives of different ethnic groups.
But over at Westminster the Ulster Unionist MP Lady Sylvia Hermon expressed concern about the rights of another kind of group. Noting that the First Minister is also Moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church, which teaches that homosexuality is evil, she wanted assurances that the rights of young gay people will be protected.
Peter Hain told her the existing laws made it impossible to discriminate against anyone on grounds of their sexuality.

Yes it's lucky that potentially controversial laws in this area were enacted during Direct Rule. 'Liberal' social measures will potentially have a hard time while Paisley is First Minister.
Remember that there is a First Minister and a Deputy First Minister; Martin McGuinness and Sinn Fein will not tolerate any discrimination against any gay, lesbian, protestant, catholic or anybody else on any grounds of race etc. I don't know how long this love in is going to last but people should remember that it is not a protestant parliament for a protestant people! We gays are no shrinking violets either. WE got rights and we are going to use them!
If things keep going the way they are, Ian and Martin will soon be truly madly deeply with each other.
That really would be the celebrity civil partnership of the century!
You tell them, sweetheart!
Gays and hetrosexuals are equally loved by God. SF and DUP members are equally loved by God. Whilst rights seem foremost, ultimately God may not love how we act but He walks in mercy and grace. Will Ian and Martin?
