The Claudia Factor
- 24 Jan 07, 11:53 PM
If everybody in Davos is a star – corporate, political or otherwise (journalists obviously excluded) – then how can you attract people to come to your party?
Inviting old friends and business partners obviously helps. Offering good food prepared by famous cooks is another strategy.
And then there is the Claudia factor. People were thronging to get into the Focus party, organised by German publishing tycoon Hubert Burda.
They probably wanted to meet the likes of Michael Dell and Skype founder Niklas Zennstroem. But what made them stay was the presence of German supermodel Claudia Schiffer.
Now I’m a married man, but I have to admit that close-up Claudia looks even prettier than in those ubiquitous adverts.
Many men in the audience were visibly smitten, and at least one was not very well informed. All evening, Claudia confided, he had tried to set up a date for her with the son of banking scion Evelyn Rothschild, not knowing that she is already happily married.
On Thursday, Ms Schiffer will attend the launch of an initiative that hopes to do for climate change what Bono's Join Red campaign has done for the fight against Aids. Now, let's see ... do you think anybody will come?
