Aled
Without wanting to turn this blog into the Paul McKenna appreciation society I have to say, he's very good. More importantly though it's surprising how simple his methods are!

Yes, I was hypnotized but not until the very end of our session. The rest of the session was just as interesting. Paul found out where my fear had come from and realizing that we learn fear 鈥 we're not born with it 鈥 tried to rewire my instinct about flying 鈥 or in my case the take off and landing.

Visualizing the circumstances (apparently) produces the same chemical reaction as actually being there so the plan is to run through the scenario a few times and train my instincts to feel warmth and calmness rather than the default tension and stress.

Well, we've managed that. I can now stay calm while talking about the flight, the takeoff and even the thought of turbulence during take-off! The big test will of course be when I'm sat in the aircraft as it takes off rather than in a comfy office with my feet planted on the ground.

As for the terribly exciting hypnosis. It was a bit of a disappointment. Paul warned me it wouldn't be the full works but just something gentle to get my subconscious to register that it's fine to be relaxed on a plane.

I closed my eyes and throughout felt like I could open them at any point and a couple of times actually considered frightening him with a 鈥渂oo!鈥. The session ended before I got the chance to though and after questioning how much good actually came out of being spoken to in the deep voice for 50 鈥 90 seconds Paul pointed out that I'd actually been 鈥渦nder鈥 for 11 minutes. Ooh!

Roll on Friday. Roll on New York!

Hypnotism... it's just wrong. I'd rather have a fear of something than let someone have free reign to my mind (not that I have much of one to mess with anyway!)
Just occupy yourself with a podcast, dvd or puzzle book (if you're allowed to with all these new security measures) and don't let anyone mess with your mind again.
Pob hwyl! Chris.

Hey Aled

Glad Paul has helped you with your fear and hope you have a great weekend in the big apple. so many people miss out on so much because of fear.

Had Chris not given you the opportunity to see Paul, I was going to try to contact you myself as i'm doing something very very similar called EFT. im extremely passionate about it and have just recently sent off my completed exam and now awaiting the results.

So happy birthday and enjoy!

Me and my friend listen to the show from Ireland, not on the web or anything,it is just mysteriously on our airwaves. Freaky. But we love it.
Just cant get enough.

Hi

Loved the first comment on this about entertaining a small child. I have taken a child just under 3 on a 9 hour flight and can assure that the prospect of that fills me with far more dread than flyng. I can guarantee that if you do this the next time you fly either alone or with adults you will so be looking forward to it.

Enjoy New York have a great time

Hmm flying. Not good is it. Very safe compared to almost anything, but scares the pap out of the vast majority. You are not alone sonny, but you have to acknowledge it as irrational fear - and therefore unlikely to respond to being rational. Mr McKenna takes that approach by attempting to wipe the negative connection from it's source - and this may work. But unless he has also wiped your memory, your unconcious starts talking to itself and eventually you've managed to return to square 1. Therefore I will now give you the secret to flying without fear; Take at least one child under the age of 3, then attempt to keep it occupied from when you board, until you disembark 9 hours later, whilst only having about 3 square feet in which to do it, and a laptop battery that only lasts 2 hours.
If you do not have children then 2 small goats will do.

Hi Aled,

I used to fear flying too, but now although a little nervous, I actually love it and take no tablets etc anymore!
I used a combination of learning about planes using a flight simulator and books like Allen Carr's, but did not get to needing any Paul McKenna, although I have other titles by him.
The take off and landing are the most exciting bits and should be enjoyed, the stuff in the middle is quite dull nowadays!

Good luck and have a great time, it's been years since I've been to the big apple.

Well done Aled,

Am glad that you are finally feeling a little more relaxed about your trip away, I myself am going on hoilday tomorrow (it's my 1st wedding anniversary on Sunday)sadly I am not flying to New York but I'll be on a speed ferry on my way to France tomorrow. I am also nervous about this (I'm not a very good traveller be it by air or sea)

I remember going on my honeymoon to Thailand and we had to stop at Doha in the middle east. I was terrified, so much so that I spent take off and landing with a blanket over my head and digging my nails into my new husband. This I must add was not some perverse form of foreplay!! I found that helped quite alot.

Anyway have a fantastic birthday and remember to breathe deeply and go to your 'happy place'!!

Lots of love,

Amanda
