Are we there yet?

Matt Humphreys Matt Humphreys | 14:10 UK time, Saturday, 17 June 2006

MattI've just had my first go of autobahn driving, and we're still in one piece! I've now handed over the wheel to Mark (our translator) who had threatened to spend his time as passenger blowing bubbles with the 'world's best chewing gum' - and its not even bubblegum, which is what makes it so amazing.

We're in the second car of a three car convoy heading up north to Herford army base (not too far from Hanover) on a daddy of a journey. We left at 10am, it's now 2pm and we've still got another hour or so to go. The weather has taken a turn for the worse a well which meant we were treated to the sight of Rhys whipping his shorts off in a service station car park to get into his jeans.

We weren't the only ones that got a gimpse of Rhys' undewear (they were white, Rhys fans) as some old guy in a camper van started beeping on his horn. As if he needed any encouragement, Rhys then shouted 'hello ladies' to a couple of pensioners who had not bargained for a male striptease to accompany their cup of tea and petrol refill.

In more service station related news, the use of the toilets will set you back 50 cents but in return you get a ticket of the same monetary bvalue to spend in the shop. Of course there's nothing you can actually buy for 50 cents so we've decided to collect all our tickets together and then at the end of our stay in Germany buy something 'special'. We're hoping for a cuddly toy!

060617_ob_brownsign_125.jpgIf you heard the start of the show yesterday you'll have heard Chris talking about me taking pictures of road signs. Now I've only done that a couple of times (fror the blog of course, I'm not some road sign geek) but now he's mentioned it I decided I should include some of the more interesting German road signs on the blog. Well you would too if you were bored on a six hour journey!

You should have visited Volkach. It's a nice little town - and it is famous for its riesling wines (Escherndorfer Lump)!

Loving the signs, Ya Nutter!

Have been trying to track you around Germany using Google Earth (for no other reason than I am bored - and couldnt think of any other reason to look around Germany) - How close am I? - (P.S you need Google Earth installed to view this)
