So, what about all this solar flare business?

Chris Evans | 11:29 UK time, Thursday, 8 March 2012

Electrons from outer space raining down upon us, whatever next? Somebody will be telling me we've got one of the Osmonds on the show next. Oh, yep-thats just happened. How about a big hand for little Jimmy. Joining us live for Breakfast tomorrow. In other news, its tribute band day in the CarFest production office. By production office what I really mean is my car on the way home. Leaning towards the 60's and not The Fab Four but that other band. You know, the one with the bloke that has the huge lips. Nothing signed, nothing sealed but we still hope to deliver by the end of the day

Happy Thursday everyone.

Peace and Love

Hey Chris, get yerself a good Who tribute band to bring CarFest to a "smashing" finale.
And maybe invite Steve Cradock to join them on stage - or perhaps not ;-) ...

  • Comment number 3.

    Morning Chief Christoff

I emailed you earlier about CarFest - hope it got to you and that you can give it 2 mins of your very busy time.

And if you're talking Counterfeit Stones ...... WOWSER!!! I've seen them a few times and Nick Dagger is almost as good as the real thing :-)

As for Solar Flares - I'm sure Marc Bolan wore them on TOTP circa 1973!

Oh chrissie you will be beside yourself with excitement then tomorrow with the Osmond jr, he seems like such a nice guy too.

Deevs if i make it to Turkey I shall find him out and video him so you can relive it all over again ;-0

CLP Stolling Rones then it is, cant say I have gone out of my way to see them but must admit I could imagine them being a good old finale whether they are real or not.

Back to the grindstone, couldnt find any dragons, damsels, kittens or sharks in Shropshire but have heard of the odd troll here and there.

Chris!!! Jimmy for breakfast tomorrow - I am beyond excited! Loving hearing about your CarFest plans - it will all come together brilliantly, I am sure. xx

AliB: oooh, excited, excited, excited! Just to confirm ... I am rather excited. xx

Cheryl: I would give just about anything to watch someone called Nick Dagger!

Re: the solar flares we may experience - this morning our train conductor gave us the usual "take your belongings with you, have your tickets for inspection" chat - and then he said: "oh, and watch out for those solar flares - they can cause havoc"!

    p.s. I'm excited!

    Hiya,

Crazy busy at work but needed a break and couldn鈥檛 think of anywhere better than a wee blog catch up.

Great idea re the tribute band for CarFest 鈥 Showaddysdaddy really made me chuckle Chris.

You are all sounding in fine fettle.

Chris great to have you back and thank goodness it was only two days. Wasn鈥檛 keen on Mr Allinson for the morning spot but then no one will ever be able to step into the great masters shoes for me.

One of my definitions for 鈥渂oring鈥 is someone who constantly harps on about everyone else being boring!

Bids 鈥 yesterday you asked about the guy Chris was speaking 鈥 it was Sir Peter Blake who designed this years Brit Award 鈥 he of Sergeant Peppers Album cover fame, what a claim to fame!

Cheryl 鈥 pleased you had a great holiday and well done for getting the balance just right which isn鈥檛 easy to do when visiting family. The excitement levels must be off the scale as you all await the arrival of your wee puppy.

AliB 鈥 how鈥檚 your nose? Well done on the clear up.

Sallie 鈥 Sainbugs or as my lovey Mum would call them 鈥淪tainsburys鈥 sell the DS range of GF foods which include pizzas, pies, Yorkshire puds etc., my friend recommends them as a good GF alternative. Hope you are managing to get to grips with it all and start to feel the benefits soon xx

    Jillygoat 鈥 I鈥檓 so sorry to hear how difficult things have been for you both, I really hope things start to get better soon xxxx {{{{hug}}}}

ChrissieS 鈥 love it! Oh and by the way you will make a fantastic Grandma no doubt about it xx Haven鈥檛 seen Anna and not sure if she is on holiday or not.

Dozer 鈥 the moon was stunning last night.

    Trulyscrummer 鈥 welcome.

Kim - Chris did ask on the show to send in emails so I would do as ChrissieS suggests and get one in pronto.

PJ 鈥 my colleague has just gone through a week of attending everyday without selection. Pain in the wotsit!

    Hi to everyone else xx

Uh Oh鈥︹..Chris I can hear Chrissie鈥檚 squeals of delight from here! Will have to ensure I am at my desk by 8am so that I can hear all of Jimmy 鈥 quite excited myself but no where near how excited our Chrissie will be.

    Have a good day folks!

Mary - thank you xx and I couldn't agree more!

Cheryl: had a wee sneaky look, and I see what you mean ... they are busy boys!

CB: yes, utterly beside myself! Worst thing is, I have to leave the house at 8am - won't hear Jimmy (and leaving before the Candyman is torture) but I will be up at 6am on Saturday, listening to the show - isn't iplayer the business!

Ooooh, how lovely to see Mary! And you are right, I am squealing - still! xx

Jillygoat: no, nothing to report, I promise! I happened to say on the blog the other day that I hope that, one day, I will be a good grandma - just like all the lovely grans we have on the blog. I watch what they write, how they deal with their grandchildren, and I hope that someday I'll be able to implement the wee stories I have heard from them. MsS assures me that she will not be imparting news of this type any time soon!

Is it too early to hit the pub?!

I'm off to tea with an old lady from church tonight. She has a single son, who is very handsome and I'm wondering if she is checking me out as potential daughter-in-law material - I wish ;)

Hope everyone is well on this lovely sunny day.

Deevs - yep, we will certainly compare puppy-notes, although I suspect you will have more of a handful than we will as Henry will have a big 'uncle' to teach him the ropes.... and it helps that we have 1/2 acre of garden for him to roam in. it is sooo exciting though - I'm wondering how the two cats will cope ..........

I know it's a long way til Aug bank hols but when are tickets becoming available? I have to leave for work at 7.50am, the Builder has a listen and I'm checking the interweb. We are leaving for Jamaica for 10 days on Satdee to celebrate my 50th and I won't be e-able or txt-able.

There is a fab band from Brighton called Skatoons (they have a website) and you can tell by their name the kind of music they play, so jiggable and fun to hear, real party peeps.

Just turned on the radio in time for the Candy man so that put me in the friday mood .
A bit of a grey start to the day herevtooday ,but I'm sure it will brighten later.

Crissie ,am thinking of you this morning as I listen to you know who .just to let you know he's sounding good. I didn't realize his age ,so are you sure you could cope with an older man in your life ??? ;-) X.

Deev, will be smiling today ,thinking of you too,I remember the day that fred, thats the westie at work came home ,he sat in the palm of my hand and was so cute .
I'd found an old picnic blanket for my boss to take with her so he could be all wrapped up to come home, and hes still got that blanket ,brings back happy memories .
I hope that you , big man and little man have many happy years of love and fun from your new addition.

Mary ,lovely to see you popping by yesterday ,hope that your well, and thanks for that info .see you in June :-))

I went outside last night to see if I could see any signs of the Aurora ,lovely moon and a lovely clear sky ,but I think we are not rural enough to really see anything .

Just time for another cuppa befor I get going ...so take care and see you later ...

Sezza: yes, I really believe the Osmonds are genuinely nice (hate that word!) people. And Donny is still quite gorgeous!

djeli: wouldn't that be a wonderful thing re: grandparents. My own daughter has very hazy memories of my parents (they passed away when she was four years old) and I know she would just have loved being spoiled only the way grandparents do!

Half day for me, finishing off here at 12.15, and I can't wait! But, a lot to do before then, so have a good day everyone and I'll pop in later.

    Morning All,

The moon has been wonderful the past two nights and the tide on the river this morning was very, very low which I am sure has something to do with it; or else the drought is more serious than I thought!

Good to read you all this morning, you can tell it's the weekend.

How excited is cheznic this morning? I'm excited and I don't even like dogs!

Didn't hear much of Jimmy this morning, but what I did hear sounded good. I am sure Chrissie will be up at the crack of sparrows tomorrow morning to listen again ;)

When I went to park my car this morning, the parking meter swallowed my 拢1 and I couldn't get a ticket; so I rang the number on the machine and spoke to a very lovely man. A bit of early morning banter put a smile on my face. If only everyone in customer service could be as nice as he was.

You lot are sooooooooooooooooooooo lovely - just reading the comments here and on the dark side of Facecloth and Tweetsville, and your Randall Day comments has really made me smile. Which is quite an achievement as I was smiling like a mad thing already when I woke up this morning!

    :-))))

Well, the lad's home. He's very exciteable and likes to climb on me. He's also caught on that undoing the laces on my trainers with his teeth is a jolly good jape. I can confirm that his "bodily functions" are working and that I am now no stranger to the mop and bucket. We've explored the garden, had something to eat and drink, rolled around a bit and had a good auld sniff about. I foresee a weekend of sitting on my bot on the floor ......!

Loved what we heard of Jimmy Osmond this morning - and he's STILL only 48. Blimey! I used to have a Little Jimmy Osmond bath towel when I was about 5. Don't ask me why, all I can remember is that it was yellow with "Little Jimmy Osmond" across the top in black and a picture of him in the towelling! Weird, given that if anything at that age, my heart belonged to the Bay City Rollers!

Ali - have a lovely afternoon with your friend. I'm sure she'll (or he'll) appreicate your company and thoughtfulness.

** Jeremy Vine now playing Hold Me Close by David Essex - another of my childhood crushes! **

csn - enjoy living up to your blog moniker tonight with your grand-son.

    Me again!

Well, we've had some fun today, me and the lad. We've done fetch with a tennis ball in the garden, and generally got used to each other with some mopping up along the way! Little Man Randall is now absolutely sparko, out for the count, on his bed in the lounge but Nic's on his way home so no doubt there'll be more bonkersness soon!

Switching off now - I've been catching up with Masterchef over the last 2 days (4 episodes) and have about 20 minutes left of the Patisserie one.

My monie's on Shelina or Andrew to win.

I'll endeavour to nip in order the weekend at some point - have a lovely couple of days of doing whatever you're doing, and enjoy whoever you're doing it with.

Chrissie, I wish my parents were better GP, they live 10 mins away and hardly spend any time with their grandchildren. and(even if i do say so myself) my lot are happy children and easy to have around.
RANT 1. I had two occasions to celebrate in the last 10 days ( thankyou for my bday wishes on FB by the way everyone) and did i get an offer of babysittting so i could go out to dinner instead of cooking ?
    nope.
RANT 2 on a completely different track.. i bought something on line on the G**tree site last night..all ticketyboo. BARE IN MIND I LIVE ON AN ISLAND AND ITEM IS ON MAINLAND
called lady today to find out where she lives to arrange payment and collection.
( she lives close to my sister so i asked her(sister) if she would mind collecting it if i wired her the money to pay cash for the item) called lady and googled her address. told sister where it was and discovered it is 1.5 miles from her house,in fact she would probably pass very close by on her way home or on her way out shopping later...would she pop over and collect it for me
    NOPE.
    i asked nicely
i even said please and thankyou.
( i know maybe if i used capital letters)
    nope
so i am now trying to work out how my daughter can go with a friend to collect it. (she lives on mainland but has no car)

    ok

Had a lovely day with 1yr old and afternoon with 6yr old - he's moved on from Cap'n Jack to Star Wars so we had to have a light sabre fight - I lost of course as he was Darth Maul with a double light sabre. The 1yr old amused himself going round in circles till he was dizzy and fell over.

Debs, so glad you've opened FNWC.

Red, not nice when family aren't supportive, is it?

Didn't hear much of Jimmy Osmond this morning but, like Mary, heard the other Jimmy - he sounded lovely.

Deevs, remember to put all the shoes away tonight.

CSN, have a lovely midnight feast with the little'un.

    Hello to everyone else. xxxxx

Annie, how inconsiderate of people to want to travel at the same time as you! Did they not know to clear the roads for you!! ;-)

I have to report a very unpleasant situation in the Sezza household - we have run out of white wine!!!

I have had to resort to the bottle of ros茅 left behind by a friend when she came round!

    Shopping tomorrow I think!

    Catastrophe indeed Susan

I have a bottle of bubbley stashed away but that seems a little indulgent for just me on a FNWC!

    Are you celebrating?

Just had a lovely, unexpected, visit from stepson. I now have far too much information on his love life.

    Susan, enjoy your bolly tomorrow.

Sezza, Rose just doesn't do it for me, but needs must I suppose.

PS: Bingo, have a good journey.

Sezza, it's like when I go shopping - everyone else seems to have the same idea! Really annoys me.

Hard times Annie, Hard times indeed!

It maybe the time to check out the wine warehouse that opened a while ago!

Annie, Ali reckons 9pm at Bluewater is the time to go!

    Susan, enjoy the celebrations!

Just watching Sarah Millican from last night - making me giggle!

    Evening...
Deevs - Hope Randall is settling in okay, he is gorgeous!

Sezza - Ros茅 is okay, but it's always left till last!!

Bingo - Have a good time!

We've had a couple of cheeky beers after a stressful day, and I am now on the tea and chocolate!!

The move was on for the 26th, then it got all turned around, but looks like it's now back on.....

The company the navy use wanted to charge us the same for moving us from Glasgow to Orkney as we've had quoted from here to Orkney..... So..... T'other told them to *ahem* go away and spoke to the company up in Orkney we had a quote from earlier and it's all done, Orkney style - Its confirmed, we don't need to sign and send the quote back as we'll do the paperwork later, oh and just give a cheque to the lads when they come down.

The Orkney way of doing things may take a bit of getting used to!!

So I've just ordered more boxes - let the panicking begin!

    Hi everyone:

Oh yes, 6am on a Saturday - listening to Chris and Jimmy! So far, it's brilliant - they are singing Mother of Mine together at the moment - loving it!

Poor MrS - he knows I am completely crazy! Will catch up with the blog and be back after the show - hope everyone is ok.

    C xx

  • Comment number 90.

Well, that was just brilliant - loved it, love Jimmy, love Chris - it's all a bit of a love-fest at the moment!

Mary and Annie: yes, I thought Chris was just terrific this morning with Jimmy Ireland - Jimmy was just a great phone guest, wasn't he?!

CB: thanks for your comment about Jimmy O - as you can tell, I was pretty keen to hear it this morning!

AliB: how was your visit with your friend with the handsome single son?! And, how lovely you were visiting another friend last night - you are a wee bit of a sweetheart, I think. xx

Cheryl: what excitement for you with Randall. I bet he is one happy boy, having found a wonderful home. xx And, David Essex - one of the most gorgeous men to inhabit the planet - he is still a total babe!

Jillygoat: lovely to see you here this week, have a good weekend, and we are all here for you, ok?

Sezza: it would indeed be a nightmare for me to run out of white wine! But, hey, Rose comes in handy at times like these!

    Susan: enjoy the bubbly!

Annie: what a wonderful relationship you have with your stepson - he must love you so much if he can talk to you so openly. xx

eb: good luck with the packing - it's a bit of a challenge, I know!

Just to say, my afternoon yesterday was lovely - out with my sister to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel: what an absolutely wonderful movie. Not for our younger bloggers, that is true, but a fantastic film - if Penelope Wilton is not nominated for an Oscar, there is no justice in the Movie World!

Sorry for the ramble - have a good Saturday, everyone!

    Morning All,

Bit dull this morning but not cold, which is a bonus.

Deev, Glad that Randall is settling in well, I look forward to daily updates xx

eb, Good luck with the move, sounds like you're going to a beautiful part of the country xx

Sezza, Is that bottle empty now? ;) xx

Chrissie, Glad you enjoyed Jimmy and that you had a lovely afternoon yesterday xx
My visit with the lady with the handsome son was lovely. We are a generation apart but chatted all evening. She is very proud of her boys and quite rightly so, one is an Archdeacon and the other works for a law firm and if you were to google him, he comes up top of the list (he's the single one ;) xx

Woke up at 6:30 this morning, what's that all about, I am sooooo tired too. So I think a "nanna" nap is on the cards this afternoon. But the second lot of washing is in, and I've had a lovely walk by the river to get a paper. Next is the housework!

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

    Love you all lots

    Happy Saturday.

A lovely day here on the Wirral peninsula with windows open and cats sitting on them.

It's Mother's day here in my abode, it began yesterday and will continue until next Sunday. I have lovely flowers all around the house and plenty of choccies to eat. It was very lovely and thoughtful of my son and future daughter-in-law to remember as they will be in the land of smiles (Thailand) next Sunday.

    Ka!

Chrissie, saw the Marigold Hotel on Thursday with gorgeous daughter. Great film.

    Ali, enjoy your nap.

CSN, have just replenished the chocolate supplies for the next sleep-over.

Red, nowt wrong with disappearing into a book. It's my default setting.

    Maddy, lucky you.

Setting off soon to pick up man in the cupboard, he's addicted to those m&s meal deals so that's what we'll be having tonight.

Good afternoon bloggers far and wide!

I like a nice drop of Rose every now and again - a nice white zinfandel of pinot suits me just fine. I really missed wine in India - the local stuff is almost undrinkable and the imported stuff is so ridiculously expensive it was cheaper to stick to beer (and probably more refreshing in the seering temperatures too!)

Bingles - have a lovely trip to Thailand, and well done you for leaving Maddy a happy mum with all of her Mother's Day treats! 10/10 Sir!

Thanks for all your lovely comments about our newsest family member. He's settling in really well, had a peaceful night when we left him in his training crate (no howling or whining). I woke up at 4.45 am so crept downstairs to see what puddles and mini roundbouts awaited, but there were none, and he was sound asleep! I woke him up gently, and we went outside for a play for about 20 minutes (in the dark ...). Then when we came back in he presented me with a lovely puddle on the kitchen floor! Cleared it up, went back to back and we all woke up at about 8am to start the day proper. He wasn't eating much but over the last few hours I've been hand-feeding him his dry mix food, a few biccies at a time, and just as I've been sitting typing this I can hear him in his crate crunching away at the food in his bowl, so hopefully that's a sign of settlement.

Nic's lad thinks he's great. He's got a rabbit and a cat at his mums home and we think Randall can smell them on his clothes as he keeps having a good nudgue about.

On the whole, I think we're going to be a very happy family together!

Right, well it sounds like the four paws chap has gone back to sleep now, and Nic has taken his son to see The Muppet Movie (yes, I wanted to see it too but thought it best to stay home with the new arrival, but I've made them promise NOT to tell me anything about it, and to buy it for me when it comes out on DVD!)

Time to catch up with 3 episodes of Gypsy Weddings ...... I wonder if there's any chocolate left in the house?!?!?

    Laters taters.

    LOL Deevs.

Randall must be thinking to himself 'what kind of bonkers family have I joined where they wake me up in the middle of the night to go outside and play' . LOL!

He must be settling in really well though not to have been restless during the night.
