CarFest Pow-Wow!

Chris Evans | 12:11 UK time, Monday, 12 March 2012

Meeting number two just finished. Ten very enthusiastic people around one big table ticking as many organisational boxes as possible in 90 minutes. And then its action time. Bands confirmed, auction house on board and hill-climb timed. More to come, and the latest twist in this festival tale tomorrow on the radio. Now I don't know about you, but I've got to meet my wife in an hour and if I'm late, I'll be toast. Seeing as I'm off bread for Lent that would be bad news all round. Toast is not allowed. Got to go. Ta ta for now

Peace and Love

Sounds like it's all coming together nicely Chris.

How on earth are you managing with no bread? I bet you're looking forward to a lovely bacon butty for Easter more so than Easter eggs and hot cross buns.

    Hi Chris and Gang!
We have had a glorious weekend in Wiltshire bathed in beautiful warm sunshine so I have had a word with him up there to have the same for Carfest!
Hurry up and get it finalised Chris as I cant stand the wait!
Loved Top Gear last night by the way...your face when James asked if he could take it out was just classic! He obviously doesnt know what STANDING WATER is either!

    Hi all

lots of exciting things happening all around - not so much in our house I'm afraid.

I am finding lent really hard this year - when it was colder I really weanted hot choc and for my m-i-l birthday I have ordered a great cake for her - but no cake for me! I was wondering if anyone else was having sundays off - I've not done that before but the cake will be calling me??

PS - its a surprise party so don't tell her!

    Hi Chris,
I listen to your show every morning from driving to work, but i am scared that i may miss some info regarding Car-Fest.

  • Comment number 10.

    Hi everyone:

Trying to have a wee catch-up:

Bids: so sorry to hear about your grandson - pneumonia is a toughie, and he will need lots of rest and loads of Tender Loving Care, which I am sure he will get in abundance. Well done to you for realising that he needed help - grans are just the greatest thing, as I was saying last week! xx

Sezza: yes, I did hear it was a foggy one this morning - my boss's flight from down south was delayed until 3pm - he must be just about ready to take off - should have left a 10am today!

Lin: hiya, nice to see you.

Cathmel: well done to you on staying off the "social networking sites" for Lent!

Baggy: I really do think you could take a day off and have a slice (or two!) of cake!

Don't know how Chris has managed to give up bread - I just could not do it.

Hope the remainder of Monday is good to all. I have a day off tomorrow, so will be back to say hello on Wednesday!

    C xx

    Good afternoon blogettes:

Bids: Hope little fella responds well to treatment.

Good weekend in PJ household. Lots of very positive news. Not particularly for us but friends and neighbours. Also planted up some seeds directly in my allotment. Sowed some seeds to bring on. Lots achieved.

Back to my Jury Service tomorrow. Anyone up for a bet that I spend tomorrow sitting around in the Jury waiting room? I'll give you good odds.

Maddy: Look out for tomorrow's 'Where's Fred?' my village still hasn't been on !

    Regards PJ

  • Comment number 12.

    Afternoon gang!

Chris, you're a busy chap! Does giving up bread for Lent also mean pitta bread? If not, then I'd go for a lunch of warm pitta bread and loads of dips and olives and just graze y our way through the afternoon. Delish!

Cathmel - holiday was lovely, thank you. I though you'd been quiet on Twitter - that explains why! Good luck - I'm not sure I could give up social networks (well I wouldn't be able to work for some of my clients if I did!)

Bids - any news on the little one yet?

PJ - I've g ot some chilli seeds to plant and propogate (sp?). I'm meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow so will nip into a garden shop for some potting compost - with my gardenign skills, they'll need all the help they can get. lol xx

Chrissie - enjoy your day off tomorrow. A cheeky Tuesday eh?

    Baggles - we won't tell a soul!

And for my next trick - some ironing!

    Muchos Amore,

Mmmmmmmmm!!!!! Loving cut green beans at the moment. Just had some with corned beef hash but could eat a plateful of beans alone.

PJ-Will watch out for 'Where's Fred' tomorrow. BTW I love his little bubble car, would be handy for me getting out and about:

  • Comment number 14.

    Hello again,

Glad to hear the carfest organising is well under way, hope we get to go.
Didn't see Top Gear, but may have to 'watch again' just to see Chris face!

Ironing all done, but then I got sidetracked and instead of housework did a bit of sewing. I really must get my sewing machine serviced as I unpicked almost as much as I sewed! Job done now, though it did take me 3 times as long as it should have!

I could never give up bread, I love it too much, but I do try to restrict the amount I eat. One thing I can't have in the house though is cheese. I love it and will nibble it all day long given the chance! Solution.....don't buy it!

All this talk of food is making me hungry, so I'm off to get the tea.

Hope all the poorly peeps feel better soon,

    Ta ta Lin x

  • Comment number 15.

Lin - I'm envious! I really wish I could sew (and knit). I'm OK on a VERY basic level - sewing buttons on and straight line things but I could NEVER make something or do anything complicated. I think being left-handed hampers the knitting - many female relatives have tried (and failed) to teach me!

Well, I've not stopped all day so I'm just going to prep the veg kebabs to go with tea so that when Nic texts to say he's leaving the gym I just have to slem 'em in the oven with the sausages, then it's Come Dine With Me, Four In A Bed and the Arsenal match on Sky.

    And Randall. The vandal.

In honour of Simon Mayo, my Wisdom Of The Day is that ironing 4 shirts and a pair of trousers takes twice as long when there's a 10 week old puppy trying to help you!

As Blur once said, Til Tomorrow.

  • Comment number 16.

Deevs, It was only straight lines! lol

I too am left handed and my nan taught me to knit. However I do a lot of things right handed so I don't find it too difficult.

    Morning All,

Haven't had a chance to catch up but I did see Bid's Grandson is not well, I hope he feels better soon.

Had a lovely weekend. D was working on Saturday so I rode Ash first thing, then I took the dogs to the beach, I needed horse and chicken feed so the feed merchants was my next port of call, and how convenient that right next door to the feed merchants is a garden centre with a lovely cafe, so it was lunch there for me. In the afternoon, I took my usual train/bus ride to my Mum and Dad's where D was meeting me after work, we had a chinese carry out with Mum and Dad, then left to go to a party (a guy in D's work's 50th), we only got about 1 mile up the road and D declared that he couldn't be bothered going to the party - suited me to be honest, so we headed home.

Sunday, after riding Ash, we headed off to Kirkintilloch, parked the car in a lovely country pub car park and took the dogs a really nice walk along the Forth and Clyde Canal, after the walk, we had an early dinner in the pub, which was really nice.

Hope you all had a good weekend, and have a great day.

Pies and Cakes for the CarFest. Sounds fun Chris, but pies and cakes usually need ovens and they don't come as standard in tents. Don't worry, we are on the case, and will put any recipes received on our online cookbook at www.mealsinfields.co.uk. All I can think of instantly is rice krispie cakes or fried jam sandwiches.

  • Comment number 24.

    Good morning all,

A grey day here this morning and damp ,it was rather foggy here last night ,but thankfully it's no longer around .Fog is right next to the disliking of snow.

I have sent all your best wishes to Ben ,and we're going to see him tonight ,so will see for myself how he is .

Crissie ,please pass on Happy Birthday wishes to lovely daughter ,21....I wonder if we'd do anthing different if we were to go back to that age???

Gail ,It sounds like you've had a great week end ,just what they are there for . Mary ,lovely to see you ..and debs ,good luck luck with your meeting this week.

Take care all,and have a good day.

    Bids.xxx.

  • Comment number 25.

I'll get the gang mobilised at meals in fields to add to the store of on line recipes. Pies in tents though could be difficult - no ovens for the pastry.

  • Comment number 26.

Sorry, I forgot to say hello to all our newbies ..and yes just listening to all about the cakes and apparently there is going to be some sort of flying going on.

I think I'll leave the cake making to them that do it best ,but I don't mind being a taster .

    Hi Chris,
I recommend When Nature Calls loos for posh wees (always in the Isle of Wight festival) I can bake a mean lemon drizzle cake and would love to bring Ruby my 1968 Triumph Vitesse and my daughter who can sing and play the guitar! What more do we need? When are tickets going on sale??

    much love x

  • Comment number 29.

    Morning all

Chris, I just can't be doing with Bannoffee Pie. I just don't get it. Give me a tiramissou or a nice citrussy cheesecake and I'm anybody's!

And lemon merangue pie. Is that a pie? I guess it's in a pastry case, but it doesn't have a pastry top, so is it a lemon merangue tart? Or quiche?

    Oh, the worry!

Bids - lotsa luv to mini fella when you see him tonight.

    And Happy 21st to MsS.

I wouldn't do anything differently, as I think it's the last that makes us what we are now .... BUT I do wish I'd had a bit more knowledge, emotional maturity and disposable income back in the day!

Morning to everyone else, and Yaaaaaaaay for the newbies!

I love you Baby ....... (my fave song, thanks CLP!)

    Morning All,

OK, Who's taken it? What have you done with it? Someone has stolen our sun! It was definitely there yesterday morning, but by mid morning the clouds had set in and they are still here today! Please can we have it back.....thanks.

Happy Birthday MissS, have a lovely day xx

Bids, Hope Grandbob #1 continues to improve xx

Dozer, Very envious of your weekend, sounds wonderful xx

    Welcome Newbies xx

I'm not sure how I feel about CarFest, great idea and for a very good cause. But I am not sure if I'd want to go. I have a tent and I am free that weekend, but it's the loo situation that worries me ;)

Also a car is a car, and gets you from A to B, no matter how much it costs or what it looks like (opens can of worms, waits for backlash). I think the food would interest me more. If I do go will there be a Bloggers patch where we can all camp together?

Right best get on, this won't get the baby a new bonnet!

How do we get tickets to CarFest 2012??

Hi Chris, sooooo looking forward to your Car/Food Fest. Please let us know about camping, as a crowd always camp/caravan together at August B/H. It would be a great venue for us. LOL xxxxx

    Morning all

Ali, it's deffo not me got the sunshine!! Wall to wall miserable greyness here!!

    Happy 21st birthday Ms Chrissie

Ally, you sound like the perfect CarFest Attendee!! The weekend is made for you!!

Bids, best blog wishes for the poorly grandson. I hope you find him much improved

CSN, How are you feeling now? Hope you're lots better too!

Now I've done what I didn't mean to and done a listy type post and certainly left lots of people out! Sorry and hello!

Now, is that a band-wagon I see passing? Hmmm!

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 34.

I totally agree Ali - a car is a car is a car. A wheel in each corner, and one to hold on to when you're driving the thing. I love Top Gear because of all the blokey banter, joshing and crazy challenges but when they track-test a car that's worth more than the average house/4 years' salary I just go to sleep.

And a campers field for the bloggers - great idea!

    Are you listening Christoffffffff?

Off out now to meet someone for lunch for a catch up. and some town stuff beforehand.

Hopefully everyone has the idea of where Laverstoke actually is by now! I'm still not sure how one gets involved though, when will details be made public etc? Really excited about it from what I know so far, right on my doorstep as I live in Downton, sorry Highclere. Hopefully it won't be VSCC dominated as my vintage car isn't allowed in their gang and I would love to hillclimb her!
