Why are cars, boats etc referred to as "Her"?

I really want a new car but need to win the lottery first - which is a bit of a problem seeing as I don't actually do the lottery in the first place! I don't want owt flash - some of the motors on Top Gear would scare the bejaysus outta me - I'd just like a Mini or something similar to nip about it.

D'ye know, I think I've just had an epiphany. After last night's thought provoking post and subsequent conversation, I have realised that what clp is actually doing is sharing a slice of his life with his bloggers. It is sometimes a small slice admittedly, but it does provoke a conversation at points during the day and then the conversation goes off on various tangents as conversations tend to do. If that is not what a blog is for, I don't know what to suggest.

On the subject of cars, I have just made the final (large) payment on my car so that is now what it is - my car. One thing I do know is that I do so few miles and I got such a good discount on the car in the first place, when I eventually do replace it, I should get a good deal.

I am definitely liking the idea of Christmas - I need something to cheer me up. On that subject, what has happened to comedy on TV? There hasn't been any on for days, we only have the basic channels at the moment.

MTD - check out Episodes on the iPlayer - it's been running on 91Èȱ¬2 for the last 7 weeks. We missed the first one but saw from 2 - 7 and it's one of the funniest things on TV for ageeeeeeeees!

And as for CLP sharing a slice of his life with us, we only have to think back to that blog which had no words, just a pic of Tash's scan of Noah - how honoured were we to be let into their world in such a way at such a precious time.

Slightly tangenting if I may ..... my mid afternoon snack of choccy stodge seems to have been replaced with a 100g of chopped up strawberries and a sliced banana. And yes, my collegues think I've lost the plot. Having said that, I just saw a pic on Twitter than Nic posted os us both which was taken on St Valentine's Day and I actually like the way I'm starting to look.

Progress indeed!

How can you not when a number of us regularly pop up for yet another photo and one of your famous hugs! If its not Rips in a petrol station, its Bingo in reception and then 35 of us for CiN! (and thank you again for sharing Tash and Noah with us in November)

I have my "new to me company car" my little golf - that packs a mean punch actually - and loving it. For me it is joyous no worry driving - someone else is in charge of all the boring stuff, I just get to drive it

Enjoying my week off in half-term with the ankle-biter, jam-eater & stroppy teen, oh and of course, MrsW. Spot of 10 pin bowling this morning, bit of decoration later. Diabetes check tomorrow (well blood tests) followed by an all-over holistic body massage (bday gift), been quite busy. Got some decorating to do too -lounge and hallway. Back to work Monday for a rest eh?

Haven't bought a new car for an age, I'm very lucky though as I get to drive very nice, very fast cars at work. Still yet to own my dream car.

New/old cars - while I love the old-style Beetle (had 2 at different times), I would love a brand new car in the colour of my choice. Never going to happen, though.

Aaaah, the boot.
Well now that is a throw back to old style blogging.
(not that I'm complaining about how it is now!!!) Phew, got that in quick.

It's brilliant thank you, staring at me as I type from the book cabinet out of reach of the kids. That's the boot in the book cabinet, not me!
I think it's one of those moments that will live with me forever. Whole blog dedicated to me, photos too and of course the superbly delicious and lovely Beez constantly mentioning it, god bless her x

I'm at home trying to relax after what was supposed to be a scooter friendly journey turned out to be very scooter unfriendly indeed. Guess whose idea it was! It will be much more relaxing than going by car, he said. HUH! I should have listened to my intuition!

Hurrah for the car CLP! It's much better to get it now than it would have been for Christmas and so instead of wishing you 'Happy Christmas' I'm going to wish you an early 'Happy Easter'.

I so agree Margot, unfortunately they are not on at the moment, nothing is - every night there seems to be either drama, sport or documentaries - the first comedy I can find all week is on Friday. I really need cheering up on a Sunday night especially. There's not even any late night repeats - like the Big Bang Theory.

The Thursday night 9 - 10 spot has been taken over by Masterchef and although the animals in Madagascar are beautiful, David Attenboroug just doesn't cut it as a comedian.

Sezza, i would like to award you a bravery medal , in recognition of your willingness to volunteer for the cupcake tasting.

MTD, I have taken the post-it notes off all the appliances now, and am getting used to the gadgetry . I always remember the kettle as it starts with a kicking K and the cooker is a curly c !

Anyway, have decided to cook/bake/burn the Christmas cupcakes, as i will have ten months to practice.
I have done a quick costing for the production of the first batch , and including a week in the priory , it should be cica £2k , oh, allowing for variances it could come in under budget , depending on the quantity of batteries for the smoke alarm. Oh and compensation for Sezza ............

Hello CLP and blog peeps

Firstly please can someone stop this bloomin blog jumping like a jumping bean - I'm sure that puts people off. It's so annoying!

Secondly, my new old car story (proud parent alert!)....this afternoon I took my 17 yrs and 3 months old daughter to see a car! Well in fact she took me, I just drove. This new old car has been her dream for about a year and so she got herself a part time job and has been saving like mad!
Lots of her friends have actually just been given cars...but apart from the fact that we couldn't afford the insurance to get her a car never mind the car, that was not a possiblity. We pay for the driving lessons part and the test, well tests actually as you have this theory one now! So off we went to Airdrie of all places to look at a little Fiat Cinquecento (sp?), this was the first car we had been to see, but she has spent hours looking at adverts for cars waiting for 'the one'. And she was just lovely. £450 for a wee 1997 white Fiat Cinquecento...and she already had a name...Daisy!! Written on the back in sticky on letters, sounds tacky but she looked so cute and the name just suited her! So I pretended to have a clue what I was talking about, took it for a wee drive and sealed the deal! So tomorrow we go back with the cash, and No 1 D brings home her first new old car, well actually I do as I will be driving! Well done that girl! Incidentally the insurance is over 3 times the cost of the car!!!

I watched "The Life of Brian" last night and had such a good laugh - yet again!!!.

I watched the whole series of Not going out - I know that it was good. Looks like we may have to resort to the video/dvd collection for inspiration. That's if I can drag the OH away from these endless historical/wildlife documentaries.......zzzzzzzz.

Evening jumping beans!

Dreamurdream I used to have a lovely blue 1996 cinquey. It was a great car to drive, if hairy on some tight corners, and both of my kids learned to drive in it. Then then ended up driving it more than I did and used to drop me off at work etc LOL. Your daughter is a very sensible girl and both my kids saved very hard and always had jobs while at school to get what they wanted.

MC I know this may be foolish but I'd love a cupcake! xx

Aww thank you Susan, that's good to know. Never having been in such a small car before and forgetting what it was like to not have power steering and power assisted brakes it was a bit of shock today!

I forgot about the top 3 live bands, and some of the most amazing gigs are the smallest ones with bands noone has heard of, but top 3 live bands....The Proclaimers at the Barrowlands, Texas at the Barrowlands and New Order at the Barrowlands...you've got to love the Barrowlands!!! Especially when they had no health and safety! And you could smoke indoors!

Worst 3 band gigs, Eagles at Hampden, New Order at SECC, Steps with aforementioned daughter!!!
