Postcards From The Hedge

Chris Evans | 09:48 UK time, Monday, 28 February 2011

Well actually, there weren't any. Lynn Travel was in Welsh Wales for most of last week attending to the planting of a mixed hedge. And many metres too, it transpires.

We missed her, but she was too focused on her root balls. And Ken away at the same time?

Was he her man ? Was Ken the man Lynn - got it in ? It's happened before, once for a whole year.

Well, no it hasn't really - not to my knowledge anyway, I'm just mischieving. By the way I had a question for Ken. I asked him it at 9.30 today. Did you hear it ?

Anyways bye bye Feb 2011, bring on Olympic Feb.

    Hello Chris & everyone,

I haven't a clue what's been going on as I only gor back from Malta yesterday - a very eventful conference I can tell you! Once I have caught up on work-things I'll get back on here & tell you all about it.

Deevs - haven't forgotten the recipe - will try to do it later over on FB

To all of you requesting friend status on FB - think I've accepted everyone.... if not, I'll do it as soon as I can.

    Laters .........

Hi Chris: you cheeky monkey, you! No, I didn't get to hear your question to Ken this morning - will have to listen again, as I am now curious!

CG: welcome back - look forward to hearing about the conference!

    Morning All,

Chris, I can't quite understand all of your blog, but I am sure you know what you mean. At CiN I got Lynn to sign your book (!) and also Ken, and underneath Lynns signature Ken wrote "from her assitant Ken Bruce". So as long as Ken knows where he stands :)

I hope everyone one had a good weekend. Friday night I was doing Street Pastors. Saturday I met a friend for coffee, she is having such a tough time at the moment, so she off loaded on me and had a bit of a cry. Then Saturday night I went to a friends for a girlie night and a chinese. Yesterday afternoon, after church, I went to see The Kings Speech, on my own, excellent film and well done Colin. And in between all of that I watched three rugby matches...phew back to work for a rest.

My first record was Summer Loving, I sat down in Woolies and cried as my parents didn't want me to buy it, but I got my way :)

First LP was probably Cliff Richard. I've still got all my LPs and a record player to play them on, sometimes I have a trip down memory lane.

I hope all the poorly peeps are feeling better and I hope everyone has a great week. Let's hope the sun shines soon, it's right miserable in my bit of Kent.

    Good Morning CLP & Everyone.

    Good for Lynn, CLP!

I love a hedge rather than a fence and I miss my old large hedge but I do still have a hedgehog friend living in the garden.

What's going on there Chris? I think Ken sounded a bit too enthusiastic when he said he was seeing to Lynn's correspondence. Is there something happening in the valleys? Does Lynn think that we are green when she's pretending to be green in planting the hedge?

NO! Neither of you are new boys!

I did hear the conversation but didn't clock the question. I did however catch Stairway after 9am and that kinda made my morning so far.

My to do list is growing and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. 22 and a half squares to go on the baby blanket (although it might be less because the squares are coming out like rectangles and look bigger than I imagined lol.)

Have a list of people to write to for The Fountain Bedford and kinda need to do that (www.fountainbedford.co.uk - yup I'd like you to take a look if you have the time please nicely with a cherry on top)

Long Dr Who esque scarf (then again this has a deadline of the 1st Dec so I should have time.

Also trying to knit re-useable coffee collars so that I use a wooly washable one rather than always using the cardboard ones.

    ARGH brain melt-age

Mondee Greetings Ter CLP, Ken Bruce, Lynn Bowles & ALL Blog Peeps...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

CLP – A can tell what a think is going on between Ken & Lynn 'ere.... (very much like the times you CLP & Sally Boazy were ALWAYS off on 'olidee at the same time when yer did The Drivetime Gig.. Ave got the memory of an elephant me CLP!!!!!)

Basically ave looked deep inter me mind... deep inter the psychic gift ave got butta don't like ter ever mention on the blog, and all is explained as innocent >>>

Basically what am getting 'ere is The 'edge Planting is code between Ken & Lynn for 'air regrowing treatment!!!!!!
A sort of 'edge fund between Ken & Lynn!!!!
Yes Ken is keeping it top secret but 'e is following down the same line as The John & attempting ter getting 'is 'air back!!!!!!!
But not from a top London consultant like The John did!!!!! INDEED no!!!!!
No, Lynn a believe 'as tipped 'im off, after being tipped off 'erself by a friendly welsh motorist who she once 'elped avoid a bad jam (notta 'ome made welsh jam but an M4 near Cardiff one) about a top secret 'ermit who lives up in the 'ills of The Breacon Beacons and is renowned for normally 'elping only the welsh ter stop their beacons from glowing... And the 'air ter start growing!!!!
All via a secret 'erbal remedy 'e grows on the side of the moutains!!!!!!
The problem is the 'ermit can only speak welsh... 'ence Lynn coming along with Ken as a translator ter 'elp with the transplant of.... The 'edge planting (wink, wink... keep stum all!!!)
What am getting looking DEEP inter The Mind... is the 'ermit lives in a place called Llangrowgood... It's so secret don't even bother looking it up on the Google Maps or the AA road atlas!!!!!!!

So as yer can see... All is innocent CLP... Yer can chill know, sorry now!!!!!

    Glad ter 'elp!!!!!

    Bye!

Afternoon CLP and the rest, didn't hear the question you asked Lyn at 9:30, and am all intrigued now! hope Lyn enjoyed here week in welsh Wales, when I was little North Wales always meant summer holidays, especially Anglesey.

Anyhow, it has been a BEAUTIFUL day here in the 'burgh. Yes, for once the northern half of the country has got the better, deal weather wise. Hurrah! I am reliably informed that the International Space Station will be orbiting over Edinburgh this evening around 7:30, so may well nip outside to have a look for it.

CSN - looking forward to meeting up. Hopefully Rosie will be available too.

As Rosie says, a gorgeous day up here. Worked this morning, then got the man out of the cupboard and had a lovely afternoon drive up the coast to Anstruther for their famous fish 'n chips. We sat and ate them in the sun looking out to the harbour. Lovely.

It's been dry but gloomy here today Rosie, but glad you finally got a lovely day!! Last thursday was lovely here, although it woke up the mozzies, and I woke up with 3 bites on my arm on Saturday morning!!

Well I'd better go and decide what to have for dinner....

Oh, Hi Annie and MTF, you popped in there whilst I was typing!

Well done for getting home in the daylight for once MTF, I can just about make it now, and it makes a huge difference, not least cos I don't have to follow any very cautious folk on the country roads I use for my commute!

Glad you enjoyed your fish and chips Annie!!

Last couple of tins for later and then its onto a healthier month. Roll on April. LOL!!

Fish and chips taste so much better when you eat them by the sea Annie.

    Good heavens

You know those corner, kitchen cupboards? Well, have just been in there to find a flan tin I knew I had somewhere. Almost disappeared inside it - quite scary really, and lots of clattering from other stuff.

Found it, though. Have a recipe for roasted red pepper tart which I'm going to try in the next couple of days. Will let you know if it's worth the hassle.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 36.

    Evening all

Annie: my corner kitchen cupboard houses my cleaning stuff, including the vacuum as it is so big (and under the sink), and yes, I too could get lost in there! Hope your tart is worth the effort.

Got home from the grindstone relatively early tonight, had a cheat tea as I hadn't really planned anything and there was a microwave zappy thing in the fridge, and now I'm hungry again and thinking there's lot of evening ahead of me. Perhaps I ought to make hot choc, raid the biccie tin and go to bed. Got a good sleep in last night, but another wouldn't hurt I'm sure. Might as well take advantage, not going to get another chance of an early night til Friday at least.

Hurrah for the pots of pate that I keep in the store cupboard.

Venison pate with truffles and burgundy, on toasted walnut bread with h/m jostaberry jelly.

    Almost instant fodder!

    Second slice? Why not.

Hya Oz, you had almost instant fodder too!

I am going to try and get some earlier nights too.

Evening MTF, toast is out here, bread had decided to sprout lots of greeny blue mould in my short absence so was unceremoniously dumped in the bin this morning and I had to resort to cereal.

Annie, I'm hoping that I'll get the day off to meet, otherwise it may have to be a swift half at 5:30ish!

    MTF what are jostaberries?

    Hiya Rosie.

They are a cross between gooseberries and blackcurrants. I got several different types of fruit bushes as leaving presents from my last job, which was 6 years ago, so now get a good yield from them.

    My turn... Whats the ISS??

Thanks for that MTF. The ISS is the International Space Station. It passed over the UK tonight, passing over Edinburgh at about 7:30pm. As it's a clear night I had a good view!

  • Comment number 48.

There's an awful lot of backsides getting a mention here tonight ;)

MTF: I have to say, I do prefer my bread to be brown or white rather than patchy green ;) When it's nicer (light long enough and not raining) then I might be persuaded to go and find some ducks to lob it at rather than binning it.

JG: I still occasionally cook for 2 by mistake, but at least it's usually veg and therefore mostly good for me ;)

  • Comment number 49.

Annie go stand in your garden at 7:28pm tomorrow and look WSW and you should see it!

Re cooking, I often deliberately cook too much tea and then take the rest into work the next day to heat up in the microwave for lunch!

Hi CLP and all blog peeps.

CLP - I heard "Stairway to Heaven" and also the poem or words from Madge from the blog but then had to turn the radio off and so didn't hear the question to Ken.

Blog Peeps one and all - love all the book talk. Haven't managed to catch up with everyone over the weekend but take care all poorly peeps, and massive cheers and thumbs up to all those taking an action (however small) to make a difference either for themselves or others.

Will pop back in when I can over the week.

    Hiya Margot.

I never hear the show anymore. It doesn't fit in with my working day. I do try and put it on the i player though.

Maybe I should just post on the blog of the show that I do listen to!

However, I would miss all the fun and banter over here.

Yes, its fun over there too, but the friends that I have made on here and met too, are good friends indeed.

    MTF.xx

  • Comment number 52.

Hiya MTF - Like you I can never catch all the show, just bits and pieces and sometimes I attempt to catch up on the iplayer but as the week goes on I get behind, but am happy to enjoy what I can hear.

Communication both online and, when possible face to face, is a truly wonderful thing. As you say the friends made on here and met are good friends indeed.
CLP - you have created a milieu which has allowed this to happen and that must be translated as a great result of communication!

How about people's ideas of good words to start the day?
Often, at the moment, at the start of the day, I have Nina Simone's words running through my mind, "Its a new dawn, its a new day and I feel good!"

On this note I will have to log off.
    Au revoir one and all.

    Back again.

I had to go back to bed for a couple of hours kip after such an early start and wish I hadn't, I feel more tired now than when I woke up at 5!

Yes Chrissie, I texted in to Chris that I had set two loud alarms to go off at 6.30 ( the time I had planned to get up!) but as I was wide awake at 5, I decided to go earlier and left the house just after popping a post on here this morning.

It got to about 6 o'clock when I suddenly realized that I hadn't switched them off!!!!

I got home about 8 and must have missed the mention by minutes. It was only due to another blogger telling me on fb about it. I will have to put the i player on and have a listen.

Still very cold and grey here - wishing I was home under the doovay. Still, ELH delivery this evening - what a joy t'interweb shopping is. No battling for a parking space or trolley and no queueing at the checkout. Bliss.
