Flo Rida & David Guetta - 'Club Can't Handle Me'
Well here's an interesting turn-up for the books.
We all know David Guetta is having something of a year, what with the massively impressive phone book of hot R&B stars and the permanent cook-out he seems to have organised in the upper reaches of the charts. But who could've predicted he could go toe-to-toe with Usher AND Max Martin (might have to let ), with only silly old Flo Rida for protection, and effortlessly walk away with ANOTHER dance-pop triumph?
I tell you, somewhere in that man's house there's an old dusty copper lamp, which has been buffed to such a sheen you could see your face in it from the moon, and every time a door creaks, if you listen very, very carefully, you can just about make out a tiny, grumpy voice shouting, as if from the end of a very long tunnel: "Not AGAIN! Did I not say it was just JUST THREE WISHES? Why won't you LISTEN?"
(. Flo: "I see you D. Guetta!", D. Guetta: *waves*)
It's probably worth pointing out that Black Eyed Peas' 'I Gotta Feeling' once again forms a big part of the DNA of a David Guetta-produced hit song. I'm guessing this is what everyone wants him for at the moment. He produced the original, we all know it's a great song, so every Johnny-Come-Needy starts running towards him in a shameless fashion - hi Flo Rida! - because they want one just like it.
And boy does David know how to deliver! He seems to be milking every last drop of inspiration from that song, the feeling of that song, the daffy brilliance and glee at the heart of it all. It's as if he's making as many versions as he can before we all decide we preferred 'Boom Boom Pow' all along, and pop hip hop goes back to being minimal and monolithic.
But, for one last time, it doesn't really matter. It's a song from the film Step Up 3D: film songs don't have to abide by the rules of other pop songs, ask Muse. And in any case, there is something very sweet about this, like the party they're all at also serves jelly and ice cream.
Flo Rida's all bragging and full-of-himself like always - at one point he says, with cocky brilliance, "arrogant, like 'yeah!'" - but he can also be found gently singing the chorus alongside his female companion, and it's a good chorus. There's none of that self-important Usher huff and puff, the thing where you are invited to believe you are witness to an astonishing event in music, just because they say so and he's buff.
No, this is far more like a campfire sing-song, where half the people dancing are doing that jumpy-up-and-down-with-flappy-hands dance that kids do, and everyone else is just LAUGHING because that's more fun than the posing and the haughty stares.
Next time though, D. Guetta might want to think about trying something different. Just for the hell of it.

"Flo Rida has teamed up with David Guetta to create a dance-hop song that will more than likely be used for some dance montage or battle."

Sure it starts off in the same key and has a few chords but the production sounds nothing like the distinctly repetitive DUM DUM DUM DUM x2 (lower note) DUM DUM DUM DUM 'I Gotta Feeling' trundled along to.
No sir.
4 stars is good, it's not quite a five star song, it's somewhere in between, and this is going to be the smash of the summer, no doubt!
'When Love Takes Over' (with Kelly Rowland)
'Memories' (with Kid Cudi)
'Gettin' Over You' (with Chris Willis, Fergie and a pair of n00bs)
'Commander' (with Kelly Rowland)
'I Gotta Feeling' (for the Black Eyed Peas)
'Acapella' (for Kelis)
'Scream' (for Kelis) (release date to be announced)
'Sexy Chick' (with Akon)
'Rock That Body' (for the Black Eyed Peas)
'One Love' (with Estelle) (bit of a flop)
'Wavin' Flag' (with K'naan and will.i.am)
'Freak' (with Estelle) (clearly the Guetta/Midas touch doesn't work on her as this peaked at #103)
'Club Can't Handle Me' (with Flo Rida)
Did I miss any? :L

There is no stopping Guetta at the moment. His album 'One Love' has to be checked out for anyone who loves just one of these tracks.
Although there's the old saying 'if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it", Guetta should try something totally different to blow us all away again.
I remember hearing 'Love Don't Let Me Go' when I was holidaying in France 2003 and thinking 'what a track'. But I certainly didn't predict he'd be huge 6/7 years later in the UK/USA as it's turned out!

To be honest, I find it ironic that the only song to be lifted from 'One Love' that I really liked was in fact 'Memories' featuring Kid Cudi (the least successful after the title track). All the others are a bit naff or have something dislikeable about them e.g. 'Gettin' Over You' is ruined by a robotic mouse and LM*AO.
And I agree, I thought he'd be a one-hit-wonder with the Chris Willis assisted 'Love Don't Let Me Go', but he proved millions wrong! RedOne must be seriously miffed that the go-to guy is now Mr. Guetta.

It's understandable.
Check them doing a brilliant live version of it on David Letterman .
It can be viewed on You tube.
I can never resist an Interpol plug , me .
