Drake - 'Find Your Love'

Drake

I tell you what, when Drake realises someone left the drum-machine from a Casio home organ on while he was recording this, he is going to be FED. UP.

I mean it's not a bad rhythm, I spose. Probably called something like 'Bossa-2' or 'Samba-nova', but it's just constant and unvarying, and poor Drake is singing his heart out, oblivious to the "ticky-ticky-tick-tick, ticky-ticky-tick-tick" in the background.

It sounds like some enterprising soul has at least had a GO at taking it out here and there, but I'm guessing it must've got stuck on his vocal track or something. I mean it's really persistent. Like a stubborn stain or something. Poor fella.

(. OH. PLEASE.)

And he really is making the effort here. Forget all of that braggy, snoot-cocking, I'm-so-famous-I-can't-even-believe-it nonsense from his last song. This one is for the laydeez, and for once he's singing like he really means it. It's a sweet, vulnerable ballad, without an ounce of cockiness to it. His rapper mates are going to tease him ROTTEN about this.

Of course, he's also singing a lot like Craig 'Craig David' David, and I can't just wish that away, try as I might. Not that I've anything against Mr 'David' David, it's just strange that Drake should be taking over the world with this sort of a thing, when Craig 'Craig' sometimes struggles to get the same kind of attention.

That aside, it's also nice to hear a contemporary American R&B hit which is based on more than one or two chords. This actually goes somewhere musically, dramatically announcing each new change with a piano flourish against a backdrop of some moody strings.

If only they had remembered to switch those drums off before they started...

"I seriously hated everything. EVERYTHING."

This wonderful melodic slow jam has been in the charts for weeks already . What 's next ? The long overdue review of Hey Soul Sister by Train ? ;)

    Yeha right spirit! :L

I really like this song, there's something really warming and somehow re-assuring when 'hard' rappers go soft on a record: it worked for Plan B, it's going to work for Drake.

The song reminds me of a long-lost demo of Kanye West's last album '808's & Heartbreak' that didn't make the final cut.

Not that it's bad or anything. 4 stars.

I blame 'On Melancholy Hill' by Gorillaz for coming along and taking over all music for the last...what month is it now?

Actually, if Hey Soul Sister would just make its mind up and actually come further up the charts for a bit, maybe it would get some ChartBlog love.

No point hanging around in the doorway, as my mum used to say. Either come into the room, or get out.

Fraser did you star in that 90's film with Sandra Bullock called While You Were Sleeping ? While you have been dozing on a plastic beach , Train climbed as high as number 18 ! You were certainly not a super fast jelly fish , when it came to reviewing that little gem ! ;)

Well, considering it topped that charts in Ireland, and did very well in the US and Australia, #18 was a bit naff. I think Fraser is trying to say - "It barely made the Top 20, so there". :L

Lovely lovely... good tune even tho the backing track is somewhat out of place.
