Peter Andre - 'Behind Closed Doors'
First things first, I feel I should admit something controversial: I have always been a 'Team Katie' girl. Yes, I know what you're thinking: a) surely that is no way to start a Peter Andre review (and in that, you're probably right) and b) Team KATIE?! 'WHAT THE...'
Well, until recently, why not? My argument was always that even though she appears to be cold, heartless and dead behind the eyes, these were always the things we loved her for. But then those pics started to emerge of her, you know the ones, the jacuzzi + random guy ones, and my opinion started to shift. Man, Katie - that was way harsh. Suddenly I'm thinking "Is it too late to swap sides?"
So, now, with one foot in each camp, I'm aware I can't keep my balance for much longer. Which way will I fall? Well, Mr. Andre, let's just say if your single is good enough, you could (almost literally) sway me.
(. Aw Pete, thass GAW-juss!)
I don't know if I was expecting some 'Mysterious Girl' upgrade or another cover of a Disney song (either would have been very well recieved), but I can safely say that I never expected this. 'Behind Closed Doors' sees Andre like we've never seen Andre before, and we have seen a LOT of Andre, right?
There's GUITAR - more guitar than I've ever heard on a Kasabian record - and there's some seriously raw, raspy vocals - all of which do well to get across the emotion Peter's aiming at, but as this is PETER ANDRE, conspire to make the whole thing sound seriously cringe.
It's not the fact that he's trying something new - that's great - it's more that it doesn't exactly sound like something new (welcome to 90's boyband central). And then there's the fact that, essentially, it's a guitar-y power-pop doom-ballad that's unlikely ever to make it onto a Fathers' Day CD. And that is saying something.
Of course, I want to talk about this song as a song and not about it with regards to Katie and Peter's relationship (despite the opening paragraph), but Peter makes that a bit difficult with his transparent lyrics:
"You think you've got me figured out
You think you know what I'm about
Don't believe what you read
Half of the things you see".
Of course I'm not insinuating anything at all, but isn't it funny how he should have a song like this ready for release the moment him and Katie have broken up? Just saying.
Anyway, the short and short of the matter is, this is not a good song. Sorry, Peter, but until you release something that makes you grab my attention in the way your ex does the headlines, I think I'm gonna stick firmly in the Katie Camp.
Toasted marshmallow anyone?

I remember Sprit telling us a while back that this song was really good. Sprit, mate, I think you're wrong.
This song is truly awful. I hated it from the moment I heard it on Katie and Peter:Stateside (A friend was watching it, honest) and Peter was in the recording studio bopping his head away at the album listen while Katie looked utterly bored.
The raspy vocals are terrible, as he tries to come across all cool and sulky. It's not happening, Pete. No one likes you.
Honestly, Vicki, if you could, would you have given this song 0 stars? (Has there ever been a song awarded 0 stars?!) I know I would.
Team Katie all the way.
Oh! Did anyone see his performance on T4 on the beach? If you don't like him, it's hilarious. I don't think anything went right.

The early version of this had a different drum pattern and sounded modern , and it had a dance feel , and real , real attitude .
This version has been given a pop friendly sheen , but it has such a dated production , it sounds very mid - nineties ! It has slowed right down.
Oh woe ! To try to make it sound commercial , has taken all the attitude and balls out of what started out as a good song .
This new drum pattern is so dated .
This will be a top 20 hit due to publicity and celebrity , but for me this is a missed opportunity , and should have been much , much better .
Pete , get yourself a real top drawer producer , and give us attitude !

I think they were renting something out and he said some vile stuff to Katie Price.
She's no angel and she doesn't claim to be. The interviews she's done are shameless and quite correctly, attention-seeking, but she's honest about that. She's not trying to get people on side, she's just being blunt; that's how she's always been. He's painting himself to be the second coming of Jesus.
Has it occurred to people that you can't be that sincere when you insist on doing all your interviews topless? and it's the tabloids! Someone actually believed the tabloids word for word! If he was really eaten up by his emotions, you wouldn't air them to the world, no-one's that detatched really, so he can't care much.
It's also an obvious publicity scheme to subliminally promote this atrocity of a song. The song sounds like something Diane Warren vomited up in a drunken blindness that was mistakenly took for a song. I mean COME ON!! Is it any coincidence it correlates with recent events even though it was recorded prior to them? Apparently he officially ended it too, and when I put two and two together I come to the conclusion he cares about his, ahem, career more than he cares about his family. And has the nerve to make out he doesn't. Pig.

He wrote it when he was with Katie , so this explains what he has been feeling for a long time .
If he was to come out with a song called "Im so happy right now " , that would not be in keeping with the truth .
On watching Katie and Peter stateside it was obvious that she was gnawing away at his self esteem and putting him down incessantly , I am amazed he withstood it for so long . Of course , he was gonna write about it .
The fact that she is now living with a new beau so soon , will probably give Pete an albums worth of material .

Normally, I truly don't care about celebrity relationships guff (Sienna Miller, Cheryl Cole etc). And to be honest, I'm not too interested in the ins and outs of this one. But since I've always found Jordan such a repellent, soulless creature from day one of her incomprehensible arrival on the celebrity stage, and Peter Andre has always struck me as a slightly naive but well-meaning and personable guy, I have no qualms about coming out for him (ooer).

There are many factors why this song will be a top 5 hit , and I really think taking in every aspect of this singles release , we could well be looking at next Sunday's number 1 single .

This is admirable , no -one has written this song for him . And quite frankly his comeback single had to be about the traumas he has been through , he has lived it ,so as a singer , he had to sing about it .
Pink released So What about her marriage break up , because it was what she was feeling at the time.
To RE-RELEASE Mysterious Girl again is a ludicrous idea , it has already hit the charts twice .
He had to release new material .
He has largely written his new album "A NEW BEGINNING " by himself .
My only gripe as I have highlighted above , is the production and mix of the track , which to me needed to sound cutting edge , harder and with more attitude .

Im in total agreement with you blackbeen though, about the way he comes over.
I find him so insipid, and that latest record is covered up with sound affect's on his voice that is not natural sounding.
I wonder why ? maybe he doesn't like the sound of his own voice ? or maybe he isn't a real singer ?? and is just a lucky person ? rather than truly gifted .
The production sounds nothing like his old stuff and sounds like the producers where trying desperately to get away from peters usual sound which is what made him .

This song's already history, mwa-ha-ha. I've just realised this song is more of a novelty thing. Most people only bought it because of the split, which makes you question the public. I can't believe I actually cared. They're both incessantly boring, selfish and downright vain. Why are people genuinely interested in them. You try and read one OK! interview and they're so tedious. Some random couple off the high street would be more exciting.
