Keane - 'The Night Sky'

OK, you might feel able to make some snarky comment about Keane off the back of this - heaven knows I've made a few in my time - but it's one of those moments where I'm gonna back off a bit. Not because this is musically so brilliant I've been won over, mind - Keane remain a band whose songs transport some people to the very heavens and leave me waving up from the ground.

But look at the video. It's not really the kind of thing you can easily dismiss. That would be a bit cheap, and a bit rubbish, and a bit nasty when the band are working with the charity War Child to try and raise money and awareness to help people in horrendous situations.

It's not some vague self-defeating self-back-pat like Live Earth, it feels like a genuine attempt to get a message across in a direct, unthreatening and plain fashion, and for that the band and the video makers deserve more than a sarcastic slamdown and the usual ChartBlog nonsense.

SO, in the spirit of refusing to add to bad things by mocking the people who seek to end them, there's a link to Keane's website at the bottom of this. Should you choose to buy this song because you like the band, or the cause, or the song, that's lovely. Should you feel that Keane's music is getting in the way between you and the fund-raising, but you like what they're doing...I'm fairly sure War Child take donations to the value of whatever Keane are charging for their songs. Just a thought...

Superb - bought the single and would urge others to do likewise!
