R Kelly & Usher - 'Same Girl'

rkelly_usher_100.jpgNow I know what you're all thinking. You're thinking that a superstar team-up between R Kelly (he's like Usher's dad!) and Usher (R Kelly junior!) is a very irresponsible thing to do. It would be like the meeting of matter and anti-matter, which, as we all know, would cause a breakdown in the fabric of the universe, resulting in the total obliteration of all life-kind, therefore seriously denting CD and download sales FOREVER MORE..

Well, take a look around you, it didn't happen, did it? Nor did the combination of the notoriously lady-friendly Ush with his equally frisky singing partner (the 'R' must surely stand for 'Randy') cause some kind of sauce-meltdown, forcing all of the fine honeys to migrate suddenly to whatever perfumed bunker the two men are hiding in, and report for sexrobics duty.

So what DID happen? Well, as is often the case with R Kelly, preposterousness is never far away when he comes up with a hot new song idea. In the case of this little ditty, the story is that both men, despite making sweet love to upwards of umpty-twelve ladies every day, have managed to fall heavily in love with the same girl. Hence the title.

That's the first verse taken care off. R tells Ush he's got a new girlfriend, Ush says he has too, then they find out it's the same one. GAH!

It's all so galling. Despite working for waffle-house wages, this scheming little minx has clearly been flying all over America just so that she can chat up R&B's two biggest snog-magnets. And they didn't even realise! It must be the dangerously high levels of sexaholic drinks both men get through on a daily basis.

If you watch the video, you'll find out there's a neat little twist at the end, which is a VERY R Kelly way to finish the story so that neither man comes away looking like they're easily fooled. And you've got to love whatever daffy inspiration prompted these two men to get into a studio together.

Sure it's not a song which bears a huge amount of repetition (most people only need to hear a story once, after all), but let's face it, it's a hell of a lot less disruptive than the universe imploding. You can't fault them for that...

It's annoying and stupid and I don't like it. No amount of silky voice can make up for the ridiculous lyrics.
