50 Cent ft. Justin Timberlake - 'Ayo Technology'
Oh yes, HERE WE GO! This is definitely one of those times when you know you're in the presence of something truly majestic and huge. And the reason you know it, is because 50 Cent, a very modest man, by all accounts, has chosen to point it out at the beginning of his song. "Somethin' special...unforgettable" he mumbles, before going on to list the godlike beings whose combined auras have blessed this sonic treat, in that odd sing-song sneer he's perfected. "50 Ceeen'", he goes, "Justeeeen'", and then "Timbaleeeen'" and finally "God-deeeem".
Well, if that's not a stage setter, I don't know what is. There's a song about to start here, people, and it is literally SO EXCITING, that 50 Cent can't stop himself from muttering in a glazed fashion about how amazing it is when you unite three (not two, not seven, but THREE) mighty musical brands in one SUPERB ENDEAVOUR. The man's a modern-day circus ringmaster, whipping our emotions into a frenzy of expectation and then delivering...delivering...er...
Well, it's a bit odd, a song like this. On the one hand, all this time away from the mic - at business meetings and stuff - seems to have sharpened ol' Fiddy's flow considerably, in that most of his verses contain high-speed tumbledown rap tongue-twisters which he does not muck up once. Not even a little bit. Which is nice.
Plus there's JT doing his patented human choir thing, over trilling baroque synths, like what Muse use to make their songs sound a bit classical and twiddly. Granted, Muse don't tend to fill their songs with stuff about wanting to do sex with a girl in a club (er, meaning that the girl is in the club and they want to do sex with her, not that they want to do the sex in the club, although with two celebrated shag-atitians like these two, who can really say for sure?).
So, all good then? Well, sadly not. All that twiddling gets ridiculous pretty quickly, Fiddy's one-track ruminations on the girl and how the sex is going to go just sounds like a pervert's internal monologue, and the chorus should really take the song somewhere else, rather than reinforce what's gone before in a singy fashion. And it's so SLOW...
Still, what an intro, eh? WHOO BOY!
