Beyonce - 'Green Light'

BeyonceAs of right now, I've officially never been more pleased with pop music and the way in which it does what it does. I don't know if it's to do with the enormity of the Beyonce BRAND MACHINE or the fact that creativity seems to be having a field day with the best efforts of even the biggest pop stars. Either way, the fact is that hit records are now happening because of their superior remixes, rather than the version officially sanctioned by the artist who made the song in the first place. How amazing is that?

Don't believe me? Well, it's already happened. Beyonce and Shakira's 'Beautiful Liar' sold massively off the back of the remix version, which made the original look ridiculous. Not to mention slow and boring.

Speaking of which, here's Beyonce's latest. It's basically the backing for 'Independent Women' with bits of Amerie's '1 Thing' sung over the top. And it's also a bit slow.

And here's the Freemasons remix of the exact same song.

It's better, isn't it? It's faster, for a start, which is ALWAYS a good thing. And while I'm on that point, since when was pop music something you could just appreciatively nod along to? It's supposed to make your entire body twitch so hard you can't help but start dancing. That's pop music's JOB.

And even though the disco-house backing is no more original than, well, the original, it's just a damn sight more dramatic. It builds, dips, twists and squirms where Beyonce's version clicks, ticks and whirrs in a would-be-sexy style.

All of which raises the attractive thought of Johnny Remix sending back his copy of a megastar's latest work, accompanied by a hand-written note and a CD. The CD is the new, improved remix, and the note just says:
"4/10. Must try harder. THIS is how you do it.
Now write out 'I've forgotten what pop music's job is' a thousand times."

*sigh* I LOVE music, me...

I prefer the remix better but the original song is quite good itself. The remix is better because it is funkier! I like her hair when she is in the stripy outfit.

I actually like the original much better, they got it right when they remixed beautiful liar but I don't like this one. Just because a song is faster does not necessarily make it better. Who writes this crap?

[The name's at the top AND the bottom of the review, my friend. And making a song faster DOES make it better. That's a fundamental rule of pop. - FRASER (WRITTEN BY FRASER)]

OH MY GOODNESS! WHAT IS BEYONCE WEARING! My mates bro was watching this vid cos he thought it was a rude video on an adult channel. She looks like a...a....stripper. Ick.
I don't really like the song. BEYONCES SONGS ARE GETTING WORSE! SOB! I heard somewhere that her mom designed her stage clothes and stuff. Really? My mom wouldn't let me wear that. But then again, it might not be true. Oh, w/e. don't like the song. Give me elliot minor any day. ;)

Hi, the video is based on an 80's video, can't remeber which one, but if ya saw it then you'd see the comparison.

I agree the FreeMasons seem to love her, they make her singles sell because of the remix as this is the only version played on Radio 1 (That i seem to hear) and in clubs, cant wait for the release of Get Me Bodied!

Yep, the 80's video you talkin about is Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love".

By the way, this Freemasons' remix of Green Light is on of the best songs of Beyoncé BY FAR!

    I'd give it 5 stars!

    cheers!

I'm sure Beyoncé's are natural, but they so look plastic in that outfit!! Awful!!!

For everyone complaining about this song (the remix anyway) no-one can tell me they wouldn't be on the dancefloor giving it some to this one - it just begs for it and i love it. It does what it says on the tin - makes you want to shake it ;o)

Here here Adam. I'm already praying I catch the remix on a dance floor somewhere this weekend. Rock on Beyonce (or Freemasons rather...). Love it.

heya, well i really like this song,
but sometimes parts of her songs are just taken from her previous songs.

like theres a part of 'green light' which sounds the same as in 'dejavu'.

i dont like the bit were the saxaphone and drums come on and shes singing ' go go go go go gooo o go goo goo oo goo etc',,,,

its too tiring to listen to. the song is too fragmented i think. o well i couldnt do any betta lol.

but i love the chorus etc.
& beyonce is still a very sexy talented artist.
