Interpol vs. Editors - It's A Dark-Off!
Since indie doomaticians Editors arrived with 'Bullets' a couple of years ago, the comparisons with indie doomaticians Interpol have been rife. Heck, on Amazon, if you search for Editors, it also brings up Interpol's music, but why? True, neither band deals in happiness or giddy thrills, but aside from that, are the two bands really so similar? And why does your dad keep talking about Joy Division whenever either one comes on the radio?
Time for some serious analysis. Both bands have new songs out soon.
Editors have the chipper 'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors',
and Interpol's is 'The Heinrich Manoever', which you can listen to on their
Let's compare and contrast:
GUITAR 'WORK':
Editors: A very darkly warm rumble, making a comforting pillow to cry into.
Interpol: The guitar lines are so sharp, it's as if each one of your enemies were stabbing you, one by one.
SING-AGE:
Editors: Tom Smith sings in a beautiful baritone, akin to a serious newsreader putting desperate emotion into each story.
Interpol: Paul' vocal is executed with precision, like a drill-sergeant singing dalek hymns...
DOOMY THEME:
Editors: The inexplicable paradox of hurting yourself when trying to cure yourself.
Interpol: The futility of life through a Hollywood lens.
So there we have it, very different. Everyone is wrong.
CONCLUSION:
These are two of the best songs you'll hear all summer, if a miserable summer is what you want...

Well i heard the Editors song some time agao and the Heinrech Maneuver (spelling?) last week and the first thing that struck me was how remarkably similar they were, yet so different. I have always eben a fan of Editors, and this song was no less. Yet the Interpol song was no less brilliant, but they are pretty amazing in their own respects.
(I secretly like the Editors song better) and Tom's voice is much more compelling than Paul's. WHOO HOO...there have never been two songs i have liked AT THE SAME time...YAYEE..I'd love to see what happens on the charts...
more than a passing resemblance to Wonderful life by Black...
