Akon - 'Don't Matter'

AkonOh now that's a WHOLE lot nicer. None of that silly alpha-male nonsense like 'Smack That' or 'I Wanna Love You' where you can't really hear the music over the sound of the grunting in Akon's head. Grunting which probably goes something like this: "Akon see pretty lady, Akon HAVE pretty lady, make nudey, make boom-boom all over Akon sexy-man house. Akon snoozy."

This time around, to coincide with all this good weather we've been having, there's a harmonious Caribbean lilt (no, that's a drink you're thinking of) to this SuperThug's gentle song. And rather than dragging his bruised knuckles around on the floor and drooling like a neanderthal, there's actual real feelings involved this time.

A story of star-crossed lovers, who shouldn't really be together but are anyway, and how they really fit with each other despite what everyone else has to say about it (and the stupid things he has done). Sweet, eh? And backed up with a production which has nothing robotic, cold or blank about it, unlike some of those previous outings where he just seemed to be getting his viagra and helium mixed up, and squeaking his way to total romance-death.

The biggest shock of all is that this pretty little song of love and support is actually designed to REASSURE the lady in question. Somehow, despite spending all that time with amazingly unlucky-in-love stars like Eminem and Snoop Dogg, he wants her to know that he's going to be a blimming marvellous boyfriend, and not remotely like the man who appears on all of his records.

This does beg the question why, if this is true, he chooses to release those songs in the first place. But seeing as he's actually making an effort to see the girl-side of things for once, and the sun is shining, let's leave these two lovebirds be, shall we?

I for one can't stand Akon's music. I hate the sexist, crude, me Tarzan You Jane nature of it. But I am pleasantly surprised at this rather toned down (dare I say it?) 'Love Song'. Well done Mr. Akon, you've managed to produce a half decent and non-sex driven track. *Hands Akon A Medal*

-Sigh- Wonder how long this will last for him?

First of all, I was ready to purchase the newest CD, as I appreciated the non-sexist true music that was being portrayed via satellite radio. Akon's songs were some of the few I agreed to let my younger sons listen to. I am absolutely repulsed, however, by the recent video footage I have seen online. As far as I'm concerned, it's another, "if it seems to good to be true, it probably is" story. Can't believe what I have seen. Maybe someday, you (Akon) will realize that you are human, not animal...then again, maybe not.

    Lord help us!
