Christina Aguilera - 'Candyman'

ChristinaSometimes it doesn't do to think too much when you're listening to music. Like there's no point in worrying about why a modern-day pop star feels the need to release a song which is so transparently in debt to the vocal groups your great-grandma would have shaken a gravy-coloured leg to. Or why, having decided to send out this musical homage, she would see fit to fill it with extremely suggestive lyrics about a man who can make "panties drop", and something about a cherry that I'm not sure I want to understand...

Anyway, what's far more important is just how well this kind of high-octane saucy, sassy and CAMPER THAN A DIAMANTE CARAVAN song and dance routine suits Christina. It's like the further away she gets from being that tiresomely 'controversial' pants-out popstrel in the 'Dirrty' video, the more of an unsettlingly sexy pop genius she becomes, and the more ludicrous her chosen disguises and costumes are, the more herself she is.

I mean, look at the video. There's three Christinas in a row, a brunette, a red-head and a blonde. Now, normally when singers make videos in which they are playing more than one part, they make some effort to act differently in each disguise, so you the viewer could believe they are different people. It hints at hidden acting talents too, which could be useful when the hits dry up.

Not so with our Chrissie. ALL of these women (plus all of the other costume-change versions of herself) are Christina Aguilera. It's as if, using the medium of film, she is showing us a world in which there could really BE three Christina Aguilera's, they are ALL hotter than Satan's toasting fork and they like to sing together and (more importantly) dress up together. Doesn't that just make the mind REEL?

It's the kind of enormo-ego which you just have to stand back and marvel at, and the kind of ambition for a better future which should see her win a Nobel prize. In short, forget thinking...you are in the presence of a TRUE STAR, people. The only sane response is to get down on your knees and give thanks.

    What the hell is this?

she goes all "it's back to my roots for this album" it's just a selection of rubbish samples, it's not jazz or blues and i don't mind that, i just wish she wouldn't say it was.

    every song is the same

    Smutty lryics
    chorous
    Smutty lryics
    slutty dance routine
    warble

    it never changes!

Man are locked in your musical tastes. Great Grand ma may like your music, why should you be so ungracious to hers? I thought that it was something (Thank God) different by Christina doing all the parts with just costume changes and different hair color. I like this video, it shows that she can think out of the box, which is more than what you can do.

As for the album havin no jazz.. meh.. not really.. your right on that one..
her Stripped was like 5 times better than this one as for being personal and meaningful..
An this album is 2 disk's and doesn't really have that soulful boody shaking catchy tones like Stripped had.. You really don't get your money's worth.. You just better off downloading the few songs you like..

And this album I don't find smutty at all.. I find it like WAY more classy than her last one.. and its not as "in your face" either..
I like that she it trying new styles like normal people would. and it shows that she wants to grow up and leave that in your face slutyness behind.

But as for this song and video its an ok song.. but she is SO copying off of Bette Midler's Boogie woogie bugle boy.. If you guys are even into different types of music that is..

Bette did the same video with three of her self: blond, red and brunette.
And its the Same melody. Candyman just has different lyrics.. LoL

But as for Tina's style.. I love it!.. Its a cross between classy 50's and today's sex reveling cloths.. It rocks.. Very hott.

i'm not locked inside my own musical taste!

i've seen the who in a field and destinys child, i love led zep and flipping eternal!

This is just rubbish! Changing your hair colour is not thinking outside the box, if it is it makes me a musical genius!

It's not 50's inspired it's just another publicity stunt so she can take her clothes off and sell records and to hide the fact she can't write songs and has a voice that could kill small children.

[You're right, Em, this video is definitely not '50s inspired. It's '40s inspired. Hence the uniforms. Ask Bette Midler if you don't believe me. - Fraser]
