The Rapture - 'WAYUH (People Don't Dance No More)'

That bit before the brackets in the title, that's not the Raps being unable to work out the initials of the bit IN the brackets (which would be PDDNM, obviously). It actually stands for 'Whoo! Alright-Yeah...Uh-Huh!', a title which, even with the bracketed bit lopped off, makes no sense at all whatsoever...until you hear the song, that is. After that, it's BOOGIETIME!

Being an instantly familiar sort of song, reference points come thick and fast. There's Junior Senior's immortal 'Move Your Feet', there's any amount of punk-funk 'New Rave' combos with scritchy guitars and bowel-loosening funk bass, there's even some samba bands or the Buena Vista Social Club, in the shape of the ever-present go-go bells.

But, y'know, who is gonna bother sitting about debating where they may have heard this particular musical moment or that yelping jabber before when there's a full-blown disco monster in the room with you, playing havoc with your jitter-glands, and demanding you take whatever you need to shake and shake it until it breaks.

Which means that they could have called the song 'Planet Squirty Clock Lunch Bogey (Your Mum's A Trollop)' and it would still be a floor-filler.

Four starsReleased: December 4th
