Last time I was on the Three Blog I'd just been off surfing a tidal wave, playing the guitar at 60mph, and microwaving some ants (which I've been told to remind you guys, don't try at home!) But it was all to explain how the universe began and where we came from in the 91Èȱ¬ Three science documentary Secrets of the Universe.
Thanks to your feedback on the show, a full series has been commissioned (I owe you lovely people a drink). So over the past six months I've been buried alive, shot, burnt, punched, zapped, frozen, and generally suffered in the name of science filming the new series, The Secrets of Everything. You said you liked the stunt approach to explaining science, so the Producers didn't hold back! And I was only seriously damaged once...
The Secrets of Everything is all about getting to the bottom of those brain-tickling questions you've always wondered about but never found a definitive answer to. Stuff like "What do humans taste like?" and "Does water really drain through a plughole the other way down under" or "Why do chillies burn even though they're cold?"
The producers decided that the best way to get to the bottom of the last question would be to have a chilli-off!
Now, I've got to admit, I am RUBBISH with spice, but I'm always game for a challenge. I manned-up and gave my mate Jonny a call – he makes mind-blowingly hot food so I knew he'd be the right guy for the job.
Down the pub, we faced off with some crazy hot chillies as we worked our way up the 'Scoville Scale' – a measure of how hot a chilli is. Chillies don't actually burn, it's just that the capsaicin in the chilli makes the receptors in your mouth think there's something really hot in there. Oh, and capsaicin affects receptors everywhere... so you normally feel the heat again the next day too. These were some of the hottest chillies you can get your hands on. Yowch! Anyway, enjoy!

No, it CAN flow a different way, but it's not exclusive to down under.

Do we really taste like Pork??? Just cos our skin and tissues and muscles are very similar, doesn't mean we're 100% like them!! I always thought we'd taste a bit like chicken - euw! When's does the new series start?? Can't wait!!
