Akwaba! (Welcome in the local language - Twi).

So people, My flight to Ghana was delayed & full of people going down for the 26th Africa Cup Of Nations. I bumped into camera men, football scouts & Sway the UK rapper.

The people are very friendly and helpful here - big up Alex who waited for me at the Airport for a couple of hours and found me somehow in a massive crowd of people!

Got to the hotel to get some rest and the next day was business as usual. Ghana Vs Guinea was the 1st match and we were at the Accra National Stadium to cover all that was going down on 1xtra.
44, 000 plus were in the stadium to watch the opening match and a few thousand more were outside to just feed of the environment from inside the stadium.

From kids on bikes, women balancing stuff on their heads for sale, drink vendors, people with dogs spray painted with the Ghanean flag colours, face painters & even food sellers - you could buy anything from outside the stadium.

The game was on & when Ghana scored the 1st goal you could have thought they had won the competition. I saw women rolling on the ground, people running up & down screaming, kids pulling bmx stunts on their bikes - I have never seen this before in my life.

Guinea equalised and the tension and mood went down and everybody was anxious until Muntari of Portsmouth did what he has been doing for Pompey so well and struck a shot that shook the net in the final minutes. The carnival began all over again! Horns, whistles, people hugging, jumping, shouting - it was chaotic jubilation.

After the game the real party began, sound system after sound system lined the streets, clubs & pubs all had big speakers outside playing hip life (local music) and dancehall which is very big out here - also saw enough cabs flying the Jamaican flag.

The next day was also full of activity - we got up nice and early and onto a mini-bus ride from Accra to Kumasi for the game between Cameroon and Egypt. We arrived at the Baba Yara stadium and met with football fans from different countries just to find out their thoughts on the games so far and who their favourite artists were. We got to speak to a local DJ, Kwaku who spoke about the Ghanaian music scene. Check out Wednesday's (tonight's) show for the full story - D.N.A -DestiNation Africa from midnight til 2am on 1Xtra, will be coming live from the Milkin Hotel in Kumasi, the football capital of Ghana. I'll be looking at Ghana's music scene and interviewing DJs and artists from Accra and Kumasi like Kweku Ananse and Wonlov.
