What words describe and compare time?

Let's look at the words we can use to talk about time.

Time is measured in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years.

When we compare time we use words like first, earlier, slower, later, last, faster to compare one activity to another.

Example 1

Neil finished reading his book earlier than Jasmine and Peter.

We could also say.

  • Neil finished his book first.
  • Jasmine and Peter finished their books later.
  • Peter finished his book last.

Example 2

We can also look at clocks to identify the latest time and compare time on clocks.

The times they arrive are on the clocks above.

The first plane arrives at 7 o'clock.

The second plane arrives at 8 o'clock.
