Meet Mel Ruth and find out about her life working in a museum as a curator.

What is your job?

I am a curator in a really cool museum! I get to decide what things go on display in the museum. I also get to research all the artefacts in the museum, and find out lots about them and find out their history.

What鈥檚 it like to be a curator?

It鈥檚 very cool to work in a museum. I get to touch a lot of things people wouldn鈥檛 ordinarily get to touch and I think that鈥檚 really exciting.

Some days I am designing a new exhibition to go on show at one of the two museums I work in, that鈥檚 definitely very exciting for me. And other days, I can be photographing objects that have been given to our museums.

It鈥檚 always very exciting when you get something new in. I love being able to talk to people about the history of their objects and a lot of people like to come in and find out more about their things.

I am quite geeky and I can spend hours taking down information and data about things - this is definitely my dream job.

How do you become a curator?

I did a history degree at university and I then did a museums course, and I was really lucky to get my job.
