World Book Day is an event that happens in the UK and Ireland each year.
World Book Day is a celebration of reading and all things books. Lots of schools and authors like to get involved by sharing their love of books.
As a way of bringing stories to life, some children like to celebrate this day by dressing up as their favourite book character!

Starting a new story can be tricky.
To help you get started, use the activity below.
What is a story?
Every story is different.
Some stories have daring sword fights and magical adventures, whilst others have supernatural characters and enchanting forests. However, every story always has a beginning, a middle and an end.
The plot is what will happen in a story and this can be different depending on what genre the book is, meaning what kind of book it is i.e. a fantasy, sci-fi or fairy tale.

Activity: Create a book cover
Design a new book cover for your favourite story.
You should think about how the book design will give readers an idea of what the book is about.
You could include:
- Book title
- Characters
- Setting
- Author
Activity: Create a comic strip
Comic strips are books that tells a story through pictures and only a small amount of text. The story often contains lots of adventure and superheroes.
