Teachers and school staff have been working relentlessly to keep students learning while schools have been closed to most, but what extra does it take to make a Lockdown Hero?

Katie Thistleton explains the Lockdown Hero Award

Students, parents, teachers and schools across the UK were all invited to nominate teachers and support staff for the special Lockdown Hero award

Maybe your teacher has delivered amazing teaching despite the virtual barrier or your school has really made a difference to you and your family's wellbeing during this really tough time.

Perhaps you've continued to go in to school during lockdown and have really appreciated the kindness and care of your teachers and teaching assistants while they've juggled teaching you as well as your friends online.

Or do you know someone in your school who has helped teachers struggling with tech to get up and running, cheering them on to success?

The Pearson National Teaching Awards have launched The 鈥楲ockdown Hero鈥 Award for Outstanding Learner and Community Support. The award, which is supported by children's author Michael Morpurgo, is a brand new category for 2021.

We have long known the impact that one superb teacher can have, the young people they can inspire and the lives they can change. But this past year has shown us all, more than perhaps ever before, the true value of teachers.鈥Michael Morpurgo

Students, parents, teachers and schools across the UK were all invited to nominate teachers and support staff who have gone above and beyond to support students and the wider community during lockdown.

Everyone who was nominated for the award will have received a 'thank you' e-card which will show them how much they are appreciated, which is sure to have brightened up their day!

A panel of independent judges will read all the entries and The One Show鈥檚 Alex Jones has been invited to join the panel to help decide the final Lockdown Hero, who will be announced on the show later in the year.

Nominations for 2021 are now CLOSED
