Working at Pebble Mill...

My first job at Pebble Mill was in 1973 as a news producer on 91热爆 Radio Birmingham, now called 91热爆 WM. The job involved everything. Reporting, going out, producing programmes and cutting tapes with a razor blade in the middle of the night.

I have a strong connection with the place. I've been here for half it's life and I'm very, very fond of the place.
Nick Owen

I was in local radio for 5 years during which time I became the sports editor/producer and presented a 5 hour programme every Saturday. I had a great time in radio.

Between 1978 - 1992 I was away from Pebble Mill and worked for Central TV. I did quite a bit of television work including presenting Breakfast TV with Anne Diamond.

In 1992 I came back to Pebble Mill as a presenter for Good Morning with Anne and Nick. Over four years I did 600 shows. I'm now in my seventh year of doing Midlands Today.

I've worked at Pebble Mill for 15-16 years out of the buildings 32 years History, so I really have a strong connection with the place. I've been here for half its life and I'm very fond of the place.

Fond Memories of Pebble Mill...

I will miss the rural feel of Pebble Mill.
Nick Owen

My happy memories are of doing the Anne and Nick Show and all the fantasic guests we interviewed. We had Tony Blair on the show, John Major, Margaret Thatcher as well as loads of showbiz celebrities like Tom Jones.

It was also great being involved at the start of the career of people like Ainsley Harriott and Carol Smiley who have gone on to do really well.

Working with the fantastic Midlands Today team has been wonderful too. I thoroughly enjoy presenting the programme.

Moving to the Mailbox

I'll be sad to see the demise of Pebble Mill, but I can see why we're going. This place needs upgrading and so it's been decided to start again in a new purpose building.

But it will be very different! We'll be in the city centre, it will be very tight for space and I will miss the rural feel of Pebble Mill.

There are a lot of trees and greenery around here with Cannon Hill park, fabulous views across the city from the 7th floor canteen and the cricket ground just down the road.

But progress is progress so off we go!!
