About Mark Florman

Mark has combined a successful career in finance and industry with wide ranging work in philanthropy and social policy.  He co-founded the merchant banking firm Maizels Westerberg, one of the first independent pan-European merchant banks, and co-founded the Centre for Social Justice.

He has held a range of senior roles, including Chief Operating Officer of the investment banking group Aros Maizels, Managing Director of European private equity firm Doughty Hanson & Co, and Chairman of the Danish energy business LM Glasfiber.  He was Chief Executive of the British Venture Capital Association from 2011-2013, developing and negotiating growth, enterprise and venture capital regulatory policy in Europe.

In 2009, he co-founded African private equity firm 8 Miles with Bob Geldof and Kofi Annan, and has co-founded a number of businesses in the media, transport and publishing sectors.

In 2011, he was appointed by the Mayor of London as Co-Chairman of The Legacy List to drive community development in Stratford and east London following the London 2012 Olympics.  In 2014 he was a member of the G8 Social Impact Investment taskforce and the Triennial Review Group for the Big Lottery Fund.  He has initiated and led a number of campaigns including the Million Jobs campaign for young people.

Mark was educated at the London School of Economics.  He is married with three daughters.
