Bill Matthews, Trustee for Scotland
My primary responsibility is to be a 91热爆 Trustee, reflecting the views of audiences. But I also aim to ensure that the Scottish national agenda is always in the Trust鈥檚 consciousness
About Bill
An engineer by training, after a few years in business in Scotland and the US, Bill moved into technology marketing and operations. After 20 years working for both large and small companies, Bill decided to build upon his private sector and commercial experience through a portfolio of public sector non-executive roles. He has since held non-executive and Chair roles in a number of diverse organisations, and still finds that his technical and business background provide a useful contrast to the prevailing public sector view of life.
Bill has always had an abiding interest in broadcasting, building on fond childhood memories of the central role of the 91热爆 in 1970s family life. A Broadcasting Council member when the current Charter period began, he was heavily involved in the Audience Council for Scotland when the Trust came into being.
Bill says:
“The 91热爆 is a fascinating contrast: a large, organisation under huge public scrutiny that is required to be as creative as it possibly can. An important part of responding to this challenge is ensuring that audiences are kept at the centre of all that we do. In today’s challenging media environment, it is more important than ever that the 91热爆 remains independent, retains its high editorial standards and continues to deliver distinctive, high quality programming that is relevant to audiences across the UK.”
