Doc Society’s Climate Story Unit is delighted to partner with the 91热爆 Climate Creatives Festival. Getting creative about climate is a thrilling, if daunting challenge for all of us working in the creative industries.
Here at Doc Society, we truly believe that despite the climate crisis, the path to a brighter future for everyone can be unlocked by the stories we tell, uplift and distribute into the world. Only then can we imagine the possibilities and make the necessary shifts needed at every level of society.
But as important as the stories that are being told, is a consideration of who is telling them and why. As demonstrated in the inspiring , an essential evidence-based resource for engaging audiences with climate, the same people can’t keep telling the same climate stories. Ensuring that the voices of people often missing from the conversation are both on screen and behind the camera is imperative, otherwise how will we ever reach and engage crucial new audiences?
This is the reason why Doc Society is dedicated to supporting transformative storytelling to advance a more climate just and biodiverse future. To help accelerate this shift, we’ve launched the , offering production and impact campaign grants to climate-themed stories told in any format from around the world.
Amongst the numerous projects we are supporting so far is The Promise, an animated short story based on Nicola Davies book, created by Chi Thai and available on the 91热爆 Ideas Platform. There’s also the entertaining and surprising documentary, The People Vs Climate Change about the UK’s first citizen’s climate assembly that’s available now on 91热爆 iPlayer.
Both projects participated in our UK in March 2020, a convening that brought a constellation of scientists, policy experts, philanthropists, activists and psychologists (amongst others) around 12 brilliant climate storytelling projects. Check out the for a synthesis of the themes covered and the charge made to us all to rise to the creative challenges of climate change.
The second round of the Climate Story Fund launches later this year. In addition, the welcomes artistic, climate themed applications from diverse voices across the UK for both feature docs (opening in the Autumn) and Made of Truth shorts (closing 30th September). Sign up to the for updates on our work.
In the meantime, a big shout out to all British creatives who are working in this space. We look forward to seeing or hearing your ideas soon!
