Brian Dunning tweets: Fukushima nuclear plant does NOT have a combustible graphite core like Chernobyl. A total meltdown should flow into underground containment.

Nick in Tokyo contacted the 91热爆: "I just got off the phone with a friend who lives about 150km from the power plant. He and his family are trying to follow the news and warnings on mobile phones as power has been cut so they cannot watch TV or check the internet. They have little water but feel safe because supply lines with Tokyo are still up and his town hasn't suffered too much physical damage."

Prasad asks on the blog: The earthquake seemed to switched off power to heavy duty pumps used for cooling. Even the standby generator seemed to have failed to switch on! Could one more generator have saved the situation?
